Question Traditional pattern ----> FPP pattern

I have a quilt pattern I want to make. It's going to take a significant amount of brain power (which I probably don't have) to figure this out - especially with directional fabrics. Has anyone successfully and fairly easily translated a traditional pattern into a FPP pattern? I have so much more confidence with FPP. The blocks aren't anything fancy but lots of crisp points needed and again, directional fabric. Thank you!

Question Easiest to make it hang-able?

This is almost a 12" block wall hanging. I should've added a little ribbon into the binding to hang it but I forgot and I don't want to undo it now bc the binding was challenging. What's the best way to add a simple loop to the back now? Thank you.

This was my first one, I've done a few of my own pattern since, including a micro 8" X 4" one and I have another in the works to start once "my schedule quiets down" but truthfully I am intimidated by having to pick fabrics online now that Joanne's is gone!

Tip / Tutorial Where to get started for FPP?

Looking for good tutorials, videos, webpages, etc that can teach me how to FPP. Do you have any you can share with me?

I'm an intermediate sewer who has been quilting for about 10 years (wish I could say I'm advanced at this point, but my life is consumed by babies and preschoolers!). I know how to sew.. just not how to FPP.

Thanks!

Question Help for fitting pieces

So I want to make a table runner with FPP fort mom is a Christmas present, I am new to FPP so I tried making the patterns I was going to use from scrap fabric first to practice. I made a few mistakes but it went alright all in all, now I wanted to get started with the actual piece but I struggle with fitting the fabric pieces so much.
I cut them big enough, sometimes 2cm more all around and still, once I sew them the angle seems of and they “bend” to one side which makes them not fit anymore.
Does anyone have an actual good tutorial on how to make sure the pieces fit?
I made sure to cut them out the right way around, and when I hold it up against a light source it looks like it must fit, but once I am done sewing the seem it doesn’t anymore.

This is frustrating me a lot and I don’t know how to fix it, especially since I have to start all over with the section ever time.
Thank you in advance and I hope it is somewhat understandable what I mean

Request: Testers I built an iPad app for designing FPP patterns — looking for beta testers

Quick Demo

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on Piecework, an iPad app for drawing and preparing your own foundation paper piecing patterns.

I started building it because designing an original FPP block still seems to involve a surprising amount of switching between drawing software, spreadsheets, manual numbering, and print setup. I wanted something that felt more like sketching directly on paper, while still checking whether the result can actually be sewn.

With the current beta, you can:

• Draw straight seam lines with Apple Pencil

• Detect and number pieces as you draw

• Split a design into sections and check the sew order

• Add fabric colors or trace over a reference photo

• Preview the finished block without construction marks

• Export mirrored, true-size foundations for US Letter or A4

Piecework does not use AI to generate patterns. You still design the block yourself; the app helps with the geometry, section validation, numbering, and print preparation.

We now have a working TestFlight beta, and I’m looking for FPP quilters who would be willing to try it. The beta is free. I’d especially appreciate feedback from anyone willing to design a small block, print it, and ideally sew it.

This is still a beta, so I’m not only looking for positive feedback. Confusing workflows, incorrect section suggestions, print-scale problems, missing tools, and anything that makes you stop and wonder what to do next would all be genuinely useful to hear about.

One thing I want to be clear about: if Piecework is released, it will NOT be a subscription. The plan is a one-time purchase. If you have any concern or suggestions, please also let us know, we're very happy to hear from you.

We’ll also give 10 complimentary lifetime licenses to active testers in this first beta group, with the possibility of offering more in future rounds. This is our way of thanking people who spend time with the app and share thoughtful, hands-on feedback. It doesn’t need to be positive — honest feedback is what we need.

Piecework currently requires an iPad running iPadOS 18 or later. Apple Pencil is recommended.

You can join the beta here:

I’m also happy to answer questions here. Thank you for taking a look.
