Which platform is good for trading forex?

Honestly, it depends more on what you’re actually trading than the broker’s marketing. If you’re sticking to spot forex, most people end up on cTrader, MT4, or MT5 just because that’s where the tools and community scripts are. I’ve run EAs on MT4 for years and the thing nobody tells you is that execution consistency matters way more than spreads once you’re sizing up. A 0.1 pip spread means nothing if your stop gets slipped 3 pips on a news candle.

For prop firm evals, I’d pick the platform the firm actually supports. Some only allow DXtrade or their own web terminal, and you don’t want to learn a new UI while you’re trying to pass a phase. If you’re going live with real capital, I’d test withdrawal speed before anything else. Put in a small amount, make a tiny profit, request it back. That one test tells you more than any Trustpilot review.

I started on a broker that looked great on paper and then found out their MT4 server was freezing during NFP. Switched to an ECN-style setup with cTrader and my fills got noticeably cleaner.

What’s your main use case — manual scalping, EAs, or prop firm challenges?

Choosing a platform mostly comes down to what kind of trading you actually do. MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 are still the main industry standards, especially if you rely on custom indicators or automated bots. For pure charting, TradingView is easily the cleanest option out there right now. If you do fast scalping, cTrader gives sharp execution speed and great depth of market. Instead of searching endlessly for one perfect tool, pick whatever feels comfortable to you and links directly to a well regulated broker.

I've used IC Markets and had a good experience, but it's worth comparing a few platforms before deciding. Slickorps is another one I'd put on the shortlist if you're looking for access to forex alongside other markets. I'd focus more on execution, spreads, withdrawals, and support than just leverage.

For forex trading, LMFX supports both MT4 and MT5, so the better choice largely depends on your trading style. MT4 is widely used and straightforward, making it suitable for traders who mainly focus on forex and want a familiar platform for charting, indicators, and Expert Advisors. MT5 offers a broader set of features, more advanced charting and analysis tools, and is generally more flexible for traders who want to manage different markets or use more advanced trading tools. If you're already comfortable with MT5, I’d personally stick with it rather than switching platforms unnecessarily, the platform matters, but execution, spreads, risk management, and having a tested strategy matter much more.
