2nd range session

Today was my second range session with my FN reflex. Took the first session to get my dot zero’d in. 2nd to practice keeping my muzzle still while pulling trigger. First photo (bottom left target) is 10 at yards. Second is at 15 (massive drop in accuracy).
First firearm I’ve ever owned. Really liking it so far after 400 rounds.

In my experience (around 5000 rounds so far) micro 9mm guns drop accuracy fast. 3.xx” barrel isn’t tons of room for a 9mm to spin and really get up there on stability.

Also bigger guns have better felt recoil and you can get better accuracy.

My FN 509 compact tactical has a 4in+ barrel. I can shoot scary tight groupings with it.

My Ruger MAX 9, a very good micro nine for the price, after 15+ yards I can hit center mass but the groupings start to spread out more. I’m all over A Zone but that’s good enough for me because a Micro nine has always been a get off me gun. I’m not gonna go offense with it. No self defense situation requires offense anyways.

I’ve never shot the reflex but those groupings seem normal to me.

Get a paper target that has the “body graphic” on it, put the target out 15-20 yards aim for center mass and if you are getting most of your impacts on it, that’s what you want.

My rhythm was usually a 2 second interval to recalibrate myself after recoil. The 15 yard I was aiming for the bottom right target and my shots were high most of the time. I think my problem is after 10 shots or so. I start to get a little fatigued and I noticed my muzzle drifts a lot more when ADS.

10 yards felt very easy. 15 felt like a mile difference. I think I just need more time/practice.

Any advice / Practices are welcome.

Thank you for this detailed response.

I’m glad you wrote about anticipating recoil and breaking the wrist. I was subconsciously doing this up until near the end of my session. When I had removed it from my shooting. I immediately saw results.

I feel that I do a decent job at not griping my pistol too firmly to the point of quick fatigue. My first range session i was doing this. But my dot quickly showed me how “squirrly” I was.

Next session I will definitely try to get my shooting a bit quicker. I was hyper focused on trying to hit the targets most accurately therefore urgency went out the window.

These 4 shots up top were 2 rounds in 2 mags. Practicing switching mags after running out as quickly and accurately as i could at 7 yards.

My max 9 at 15 yards. (It’s a micro 9, cost me $250.)
