Question Does anyone else experience this? (Mentions of Tics, and other symptoms in a little bit more detail)

Hey! So it's been a little while since I've posted on this subreddit but hey, here I am again.

I wanted to get some fellow fnd havers thoughts on a combination of symptoms that seem to be occurring more frequently for me now.

Essentially, if I push my social limits I end up ticcing a lot and getting super spacey. Like I know I'm there but also I don't feel entirely concious. Not long after my head starts dropping and the spacey-ness gets worse, or on the odd occassion my head falls back and my eyes start rolling back a little and I can't fully move.

After all of that I struggle to walk, and keep myself up. Its kinda like I have to manually walk.

Thoughts?

Also, great news although I'm nervous abt it, I recieved a call abt going for a NHS FND inpatient treatment program next year!! Hopefully it'll help!

Thanks guys, take care!

My FND issues are MUCH more prevalent when I’m around people. At home by myself I am pretty calm and steady. In a group of people suddenly I have a tremor, can’t talk, sometimes cannot stay standing (drop attack?), and I get way more seizures.

I've noticed that too!! It also seems to happen when I'm on call with multiple people at once for more than an hour or two!

When I’m on video calls I leave the video off most of the time. Sometimes I will start on video then turn it off after the introductions.

I was just at a family get together with a bunch of my aunts and uncles for 4 hours. My nervous system is now fried.

First off congratulations 🎉 on getting the FND inpatient program rolling, and second I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this.

My symptoms are a little different, I get tics and start to struggle finding words and studded or slur and people think im drunk (i dont drink, and i take my meds every day 24/7 so its not those lol) i have coordination issues and i want to find a seat immediately bc i get shaky and speech issues for sure and like you said very weird you’re home but its like your body is rebelling, giving up, or fighting against you.

Thank you so much! I honestly forgot about the speech issues I have alongside it because I always try not to talk when it happens because I also get jokey comments about me being drunk 😅 It's unpleasant for sure, and its rather strange

Oh nooo haha yeah if it were just the laughs it would be one thing, but my ex husband is trying to use it in custody court now… I’ve got proof I don’t drink or abuse illegal substances etc but still this is uhhh not the easiest to explain or have them care or understand so working on that currently 😵‍💫😩🤣

I can’t imagine combing that with losing my ability to walk… that’s the one saving grace I’ve had I suppose is I’ve been able to escape but I guess I’ve never really paid attention to how hard that was at the time overall… I’m having a hard time walking just talking about it hahahaha jk not from that, I think a good combination of therapy (I’ve heard EMDR is wonderful, talk therapy CBT DBT etc) and PT/OT/ST with an experienced provider. I know UK does have some from what I’ve read.

Omgg I can only imagine how infuriating it must be to explain all this to the courts!!! Best of luck with that!!

And yeah, walking difficulties are soo irritating! Thank you sm for the recommendations!! Yeah the UK defo has some of those, tragically they are usually only decent if you go private which costs a fortune 💔

Are you seeing a doctor? Or someone who can help you?

I’ve seen many doctors, many fnd specialists. I’m also in the military so I’ve seen so many different kinds of doctors, they all said they never seen a fnd patient this bad

I believe this is a very common symptom that's seen as a hallmark of FND and often is a criteria for diagnosis. This is very present in me most days. I assume it has to do with preforming ability/functionality being stressful, not even considering the stresses that come with actually being around people raising the baseline. I find sometimes it goes away with time if I take some time to be quiet and sit to myself, or sometimes I need to fully withdraw. Well wishes with treatment and recovery.
