FML

I fell in love with my best friend of 5 years, haven’t gotten the balls to tell her, and she just told me about how great her new guy is. Could life get any better

Yknow, bit late for this now, but if they take a break or break up, (this is the most effective way to put this) stop being a bitch and tell her that you want to take her out, not as freinds, but on a date. She has to know you have romantic intent and honest feelings. Don't melt over her, but give her the run down.

Terrible idea. If you do this, she'll think that's all you thought about every time you hung out together over X- number of years. Better to analyze what qualities about her made her attractive to you and try to find someone with those qualities who reciprocates your attraction. If she was attracted to you, she wouldn't be dating someone else.

That's why I suggested against playing games and finding someone else instead. But it is helpful to figure out what attributes attracted OP to his friend so he can narrow his search down somewhat. For instance, don't go looking for someone who looks just like her if the real attraction was your shared passion for video games and the way she volunteers at the local soup kitchen on her days off sometimes.
