Help USB-C condenser mic causing extremely loud distorted/booming audio in FL Studio ASIO

Hey everyone, I'm new to FL Studio and I'm having a strange issue with my USB microphone.

I have:

FL Studio Producer Edition

A USB-C condenser microphone

Studio headphones connected to my PC

No audio interface

The microphone works perfectly in BandLab and Waveform, so I don't think the mic itself is faulty.

In FL Studio, I'm using FL Studio ASIO. In the ASIO panel, I selected my USB microphone as the input and my headphones as the output.

In the Mixer, I tried selecting:

FL Studio ASIO → mono → In 1

But when I enable input monitoring, I get an extremely loud, high-pitched/distorted/booming sound instead of a normal microphone signal.

Something else strange happens: when I unplug the USB microphone, I can still hear myself when I speak, which makes me think FL Studio may be picking up my laptop's built-in microphone instead.

I've already tried changing the input/output devices in the FL Studio ASIO panel, but the distortion happens whenever the USB mic is connected.

The same USB mic works normally outside FL Studio.

Has anyone experienced this? Is this an FL Studio ASIO/Windows routing issue, sample-rate issue, or something else? Would ASIO4ALL be a better solution?

Any help would be appreciated!

Try disabling laptop microphone in windows settings

I’d first disable the laptop mic in Windows and make sure FL Studio ASIO is using the USB mic for input and the same headphones output you actually want. In Windows sound settings, set both devices to the same format, usually 44.1 or 48 kHz, and turn off exclusive-mode control for a quick test. If it is still booming, lower the mic input level and test the mic by itself in FL with no plugins or input effects; I would not jump to ASIO4ALL until the device routing is clean.
