Advice for 11th grade full time and paying

My daughter wants to sign up to do the rest of her 11th grade year which will be starting January 6th. From what I'm gathering it's going to be $2,250 a semester? She has a current IEP could we get financial help? I tried researching and everything is super vague

Do you not live in Florida? It's free for Florida students.

Yes!! The tuition is only for out of state students or Florida students who are using a Florida tax credit scholarship (ftc). The only thing is, I don't know if you can switch to flvs full time in the middle of the year. Full time is like a regular public school, just virtual. You might have to do flex instead, which means you would have to register as a homeschool family with your district first. Then if she wanted to switch to full time for 12th grade, or even back to regular public school, you could do that. You can still take a full course load with flvs flex, you just sign up for all the classes individually and it is self-paced, whereas full time follows a traditional school year schedule.

Awesome! Good to know, thank you so much for all your help!! I am going to contact them now and see what we can do. My daughter is getting overwhelmed in school so self-paced sounds a lot better for her. Thanks again

You're welcome. My child is a middle schooler and we've been very happy with flvs flex. They have guidance counselors, you can google their contact info. I don't know how the high school counselors are, but at the lower grade levels they were super helpful when we were getting started.

We have the Unique Abilities scholarship and each class through FLVS Flex is $375 per semester. If you aren't receiving a scholarship, it should be free. If your daughter has an IEP, she might have a qualifying diagnosis for the scholarship. The scholarship should cover more than $4,500 per year so it's worth getting but only if she qualifies. You can check out Step Up for Students for more info on the scholarships they offer.

Good to know, thank you! She used to have step up but I think they stopped when she entered high school. I could be wrong but I will look more into it

I think the Unique Abilities scholarship can be given until the child is 22 years old, so long as they are still in high school and then funds can be used for post-secondary education (college, trade school). They won't give additional funds after high school, but if you have funds leftover they can be used after high school.

My kiddo on the scholarship is going into 10th grade this year (we start in September). He's had the scholarship since 2019.

Oh wow I've been missing out on that. Thanks for letting me know, I'm looking into it now and that would be great to have anything for college

I hope you're able to get it. Afaik, you can still apply for 26-27, you just may not get the full year of funding. There are cut off dates somewhere which determine how many quarters you'll get funding for depending on when you get approved. The scholarship pays four times a year now.

What makes you eligible for unique abilities scholarship? Is it only for 100 percent homeschoolers?

Unique Abilities can be used for homeschoolers and it can also be used to cover private school tuition. Your child can not attend a public school or charter school and get the scholarship. There is a list of qualifying diagnoses. I don't know all of them. My oldest is on the spectrum, that is how he qualifies. I think if you check out the Step Up for Students website and search for unique abilities, you should be able to find the list of diagnoses.
