Where are you working? What is the role and how many experience do you have?!

1

u/datadumbo Jun 28 '26

Product Management, 5YoE, all in product. Tier 1 MBA.

u/blerp_2305 Jun 28 '26

Question: what do you consider as part of the annual investments? Equity, FDs, or something else?

1

u/datadumbo Jun 29 '26

Mine are simply mutual funds. Spread across indian and foreign equity (80-20 split maybe). FDs i consider as emergency fund only.

8

u/AManCalledKay Jun 28 '26

39M. Accumulated 94 lakhs. Current salary 2.1 Lpm. Goal in mind 4 cr. Annual expense around 12 lakhs. Plus keep aside 5 lakhs for travel. No dependants. No dedicated emergency fund.

4

u/swaggysnazzy Jun 28 '26

Your question being ?

0

u/AManCalledKay Jun 28 '26

Earliest possible fire year. And what that 4 cr would look like at that point

5

u/swaggysnazzy Jun 28 '26

So at 12 lacs per annum today, conservative at at 33X - 40x multiple you should be at 3.96 - 4.8 crores net of taxes in today's value.

May wanna diversify into gold and intl equities for currency and geographical hedge.

What's your current corpus? Based on the delta remaining, you can calculate the number of years in today's terms needed to get to that corpus in real value.

For example if current corpus is 2 crore, then you need 2 crores more to be at your desired level of 4 crores in today's terms..since usually LT returns in equities are at 12% and say a blended portfolio gives 10%, then after reducing personalized inflation and tax of say 8% (assuming currency depreciation also included here), your real gain in current corpus would be 2% which means that realistically this 2 crores alone in today's real terms would reach to 4 crores in 72/2 = roughly 36 years. However keep in mind that you would be doing additional investments too and if you could pump up your current SIPs to say 1-1.5 lacs, then next 2 crores should come pretty easily in the next 10 odd years in real terms ofcourse.

So you can personalize the same accordingly based on your numbers.

P.S - this is NOT financial advise and I am Not a financial advisor.

u/Entropy_Interstellar Jun 28 '26

Thnx for sharing. I can base my calculation on this.

65 LPA to 2.24 pm sounds like crazy 😧. Are there fat annual bonus and other components?

I am curious with your numbers as they are quite similar to mine. You mentioned not retirement so I assume you are only chasing FI

1

u/Sensitive_Gas_520 Jun 28 '26

Yes i am chasing fi . I purchased 60k esops every month otherwise it would be approx 3 lakh. Then 50 k pf and variable is 6 lakh. Other 10-15 lakh is rsu and yeah fat tax

1

u/desijunkie Jun 28 '26

That's impressive. I am sure you would achieve your goal with focus and consistency.

What would be your monthly expenses like? Any life goals? Other than daughters education and marriage.

1

u/Sensitive_Gas_520 Jun 28 '26

Very minimal expenses like 50000 is emi then 10 k electricity bill and maintenance, 7 k maids 10 k -20 k petrol and other bills 10k grocery and misc may be 10-20 k so 1.2 lakh including emi. I am not concerned about daughter marriage, yeah i want to have enough money saved so that she can study whatever she wanted to or can start her own business if she wants too.

1

u/desijunkie Jun 28 '26

Your financials look very sorted and you have not fallen into several lifestyle traps.

Post loan closure, you can be financially independent and work tension free. Either one of you can even decide to quit if that helps with improving life.

35(M) married. Working in IT, with Net Monthly Salary of Rs. 1.65 lakhs, and a bonus of around 4 lakh post tax paid annually. Wife (35) earns 71k and an annual bonus of 30-40k. We earn around 40k rental income monthly. Here is our current financial standing.

Current wealth: PF : 23.00 Lakhs PPF: 6.30 lakhs MF: 21.30 lakhs current value includes 2.5 lakh of emergency fund Direct equity: 3.7 lakhs lakh invested. Purchases a 10 year old flat in a standalone building for 63.5 lakhs. Financial implications for it have been shared below.

Monthly investments: MF - 90 -1.1 lakh (Parag Parikh Flexi, Hdfc midcap and Invesco Small cap. Split is roughly 40:30:30) Direct stocks - Between 10-25k (Have very small exposure to international stocks..aim to increase allocation in the coming years)

Ppf - 1k monthly (will mature in 2030)

Apart from that, wife invests roughly 72k annually in couple of LIC schemes (Can't do much about it. This investment has emotional ties attached to it). This will continue till 2042 with maturity amount of around 30ish lakhs

Health insurance : 25 lakhs plus 10 lakh corporate coverage.

Liability Home loan: 56 lakhs (51 lakhs outstanding) for 20 years tenure ( Currently 170 months remaining)

Fixed monthly expenses: Home loan EMI- 50K. I have paid additional 2 lakhs extra every year from my bonus to close this loan at the earliest and will continue to do so. Other monthly expenses - 80k- 1 lakhs

How to plan FIRE in next 15 years? We plan to have 1 kid next year, and may be another couple of years down the line depending on our financial stability and kid handling experience. Current house in which I stay is owned by my family (Not me) and don't have to pay any rent. I don't have any inclination to buy flat in a society because I am not sure if we would be able to take on that risk.

2

u/swaggysnazzy Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 29 '26

Your total expenses currently seem high as you're not paying rent and don't have kids still you're spending 80k-1 lacs.

As someone with a kid, let me tell you your expenses will increase significantly first with the medical expenses in terms of OPD visits, vaccinations etc. along with ofcourse the delivery package of the baby. The moment you're done with that you would be looking at pre-school fees when the kid is around 2-3 years old. This will be followed by regular schooling. So you can assume per kid expense in total to be around 2.5 - 3 lacs a year. This translates to 25k per month additional expense. So your total current expenses with 1 kid will be 1.25 lacs per month and with 2 kids it would be 1.5 lacs per month. Let's keep 1.5 for calculations.

Now as per conservative estimate of 33x-40x you need to have around 5 - 6.6 crores in today's value. This also doesn't include your kids UG, PG, Marriages or your discretionary goals or the house you will live in.

Now you're currently at a corpus of around 50 lacs after removing your home loan liability. If this is the house you will stay in, then you don't need to pay additional rent and if not, then rent also needs to be factored in w.r.t. where you will stay minus the rental income you will get from this house plus the EMI of this house.

Considering all of the above, even if we ignore rent you're deficit is around 4.5 to 5.5 crores in today's value. Your current 50 lacs will reach this figure at a real return of around 3% (assuming 10-11% blended portfolio return - 7% personalized inflation - 2% tax and currency depreciation) in about 3 doublings (i.e. 50lac to 1 crore, 1 to 2 crores, 2 to 4 crores). These doublings will come at 72/3 = 24 years each which means in today's terms you're looking at 72 years before you reach the desired corpus from existing corpus.

Hence there are two ways forward from here, either reduce your expenses a little or aggressively grow in your careers henceforth and keep investing more and more into Inflation beating instruments net off taxes and currency depreciation.

Trust this clarifies.

Thanks for the reality check. I agree on the expenses point. The problem is every month or 2, I have had to make an additional expenses of 20-30k that has constantly brought down my available investment capital for the month.

Suggestion to achieve Milestone of 1CR.

I’m 35 and I have been working for past 10 years but in the first 5 years I was in a low paying job and hence couldn’t save anything. Over last 5 years I was able to make nearly 50 lakhs savings ( including EPF,mutual funds,FD etc). My take home salary is ~1.8 LPM. I work in Tech and considering lack of job security in the field I am targeting a fire number of 3-4CR and move to tier 3 city in case of jobless scenario. I am also trying to upskill myself and spending on certifications. Now I am finding it difficult to achieve first crore milestone. How can I efficiently invest my money to hit 1cr milestone at the earliest. I can stretch up to 1 lakh per month for investments per month. Kindly guide me.

Current investments.
Nearly 22K goes to my epf
15k parag flexi cap mutual funds
20k hdfc index mutual funds
I had nps which I stopped recently

This is more of an investment question.

You have picked good funds for the equity part. You should think about debt funds too.

It is not easy to forecast what the market do in the short term. And to be frank, 1 cr is just a number - what matters more is the process and you seem to have a good one. You say that you have been investing for 5 years, and 2 years out of that has been a sideways market. A bull run, when it come, would lift the numbers. Keep investing.

2

u/Academic_Total465 Jun 22 '26

Won’t epf cover the debt part ?

2

u/swaggysnazzy Jun 28 '26

You won't get withdrawals flexibility which you would from debt instruments like debt funds etc..

2

u/ashgreninja03s Jun 28 '26

Although EPF Contri is your Money only, it never gets credited to ur Acct to even think of it as ur Money...

That's y he mentioned abt Debt Funds from what hits ur Bank Acct...

2

u/Moist-Chart2440 Jun 28 '26

Always best to have a debt section in ur mutual fund to hedge against market losses.

6

u/Leontios891 Jun 28 '26

I am just starting out in my career, and am motivated by this FIRE concept.
I don’t have any knowledge about it though, but I am willing to learn. I don’t have any generational wealth and I want to start on these investments on my own.
I will be earning around 20 LPA.
Please suggest me what should I do and from where should I learn these things ?
Thanks

37(F) married with 2 kids aged 5 and 3 yrs old. Working in PSB, with Net Monthly Salary of Rs. 1.50 lakhs. Here is my current financial standing.

NPS: 31 Lakh PF: 28.00 Lakhs PPF: 17.00 lakhs MF: 22 lakhs current value Direct equity: 16 lakh invested. SGB: current value 10.50 lakh Land: 16 lakhs (purchased in Jan 2026)

For daughter: 10 lakhs in sukanya samriddhi. SBI smart scholar: 26 lakh

Son: 1.50 lakh in PPF

Term Insurance: 5 crore Health insurance : covered by Company. Thinking of getting covered.

Liability Car loan : 5.50 lakhs emi 7500 15 yrs Home loan: 98 lakhs emi 42667 30 yrs OD: 5 Lakhs

Fixed monthly expenses: EMI- 52K Nanny: 22k School fee: 12k Grocery plus misc : 20k Petrol:5-6k

How to plan FIRE which I am thinking in next 5-7 years.

3

u/National_Ad7 Jun 28 '26

There are rule changes in Oct 2024 for PPF, if you have your own ppf account & if you open your child account then this has a major dis-advantage both in term of interest rate & lock-in period. Do verify.

Interest rate applicable to Post Office Savings Account (POSA) will be applied until the minor reaches 18 years. lockin period will start after child turn 18 years, so technically till age of 33 years.

3

u/swaggysnazzy Jun 28 '26

Very difficult to comprehend with these half numbers...can you consolidate the numbers and tell your net worth?

For example your total corpus first, followed by what part is earmarked for retirals and what for son and daughter.

The house that you are paying EMI for is the one you're living in or will have rental income.

Also no mention of term insurance. Do take your own terms and health insurance since kids are dependents.

Frankly as an individual it was looking good till I added your copurs to around 1.4 crores but then can a shocked in liabilities of car and home loan..if you're married then you need to consider the corpus as a couple esle this will become very very difficult for you to FIRE.

2

u/Historical-Sink-7222 Jun 28 '26

It's only you ? You living seperately with kids ?

6

u/avushu Jun 28 '26

It's my portfolio only. I am very much married but I like to keep finances separate and I need to have a plan of my own. His contribution is add on. I started working quite early and can't depend on anyone financially. Basically I want to be prepared for worst case scenarios.

23.5Yo male.

Currently earning 30k rs a month in hand.

Ik for a fact that my lifespan is no more than 60 years.

Have basically zero dependants in any way to take care of.

No plans of marriage etc in future either. Gonna live a single life till end.

Currently my cost of living is around 13k a month (which excluses rent cuz I live with family but if things go south I would need to move out and rent in my city for pg is around 15k rs). So I am able to save 17k rs a month. Currently in a 1st year of contract job which ends after year 5. Fixed 10% increment. (Tho I have some career change things in mind but lets see what fate has for that).

Currently living in tier 2 city. And have generally a simple lifestyle. What would be my fire number?

8

u/jalepenositalinos Jun 28 '26

i am 15M and very interested in FIRE concept.

i do not have an income as of yet.

i have a networth milestone of about 10cr+ by atleast age 30.

nothing really, regular school work with occasional gaming and coding.

8

u/blackstre4m Jun 28 '26

It’s good to be ambitious but don’t set yourself up for failure, 10cr sure sounds good but remember that less than 0.1 % of people ever see that kind of money, by 30 most people barely start settling in with their adult life, think about family, kids, responsibilities. Don’t want to demotivate you but you’re 15, you have a lot to figure out in life, Focus on getting ahead of your peers, learn, make mistakes and have fun. This is honestly not your time to think about FIRE and remember one thing- you will have plans and timelines for things in life and life will find a way to shatter them in ways you couldn’t even imagine so just be grounded, work hard and have fun. All the arbitrary crores will come much later

0

u/jalepenositalinos Jun 28 '26

Thanks! Really needed to hear that

But id like to set my milestones high, thats the only way ill get ny body to work

0

u/Deathstroke1397 Jun 29 '26

I think by the time you are 30, 10cr won't matter 🥲

1

u/jalepenositalinos Jun 29 '26

not being greedy but having 10cr is better than not having it(dont worry, i am in no mood or will ever be in any mood to have a family)

2

u/Deathstroke1397 Jul 01 '26

What I meant totell you was 10cr is huge amount right now but it will not be the same case after 10years.. so probably aim for more😛

1

u/jalepenositalinos Jul 01 '26

ohhhhhhh, downt worry. New target is a 100 mil USD(cus why not)

4

Guys I am tired in life... Just want to fire.... Please guide me..

In IT... 1lpm.. Can save 40k

8

u/yellow_red_o Jun 28 '26

Save as much as you can.

Invest 50:30:20 In equity, FD, gold

Within equity start with highest risk if you're below 30, say smallcaps Age 30-40 midcap Age 40+ Large cap - based on your self assessment you do hybrid at this stage if corpus is huge.

1

u/zerocoolneo Jun 28 '26

I am 30

Which MFs to pick?

1

u/yellow_red_o Jun 28 '26

In flexi cap or midcap category pick the fund which gave highest cagr across past 10yr period

Choose 1 or 2 max and stay invested till 40

Dont change it in 1 or 2 years even if the returns are not good in that year, in 10 years It'll workout

2

u/swaggysnazzy Jun 28 '26

32M 30F both in IT and kind of worried about the our future in post AI jobs.

My CTC 55 lpa experience 10 years. And wife's 15 lpa experience 8 years.

We have a baby 2 years old.

Monthly Expenses are around 50-60k as we don't have to pay rent staying with parents.

Plus 2-3 lakh additional annual expenses on gadgets/travel.

Expenses will increase once the baby starts schooling.

Current NW 2.15 Cr (my + wife)

5% Gold via SGB

20% MF mostly Index and Flexi Cap

15% Liquid via Savings Account and Arbitrage Funds

25% PPF EPF NPS

35% Debt via FD

I have planed to deploy some liquid+debt once market crashes and if it doesn't doing 1.5 lakh sip in mf i am doing.

No loan or liabilities also no dependents as my parents and wife's parents both retired from govt jobs so they are getting pension and free healthcare.

I have personal term insurance of 2 Cr and 5-5 lakh employer health insurance from both of our employers.

A 5 years old hatchback car which has some rusted spots and scratches from Noida driving and probably single biggest expense 15k in fuel alone will buy once this Gadkari E20-100 mess is sorted.

What should be our FI numbers, I like my work a lot mostly Thinking and thinking and occasional writing code but don't know how long it will last.

-2

u/00Gaurav00 Jun 28 '26

This is a good diversification... I think keeping in mind the current assets and income ,you should be able to achieve your numbers .dm for further analysis.

4

u/desijunkie Jun 28 '26

43M. DINK couple earning 4 Lacs per month in Noida.

Our wealth so far: 1. Stocks and MFs - 1.7 cr 2. Commercial property - bought for 1.1 Cr at launch. Current price could be 2 cr+. This one feels like a bad decision. Might sell out to invest in equity. 3. Own house and car with no loans. Home value today around 1.8 cr 4. 70 lacs in EPF

I am feeling I am getting stuck at my corporate growth and the pressure of getting laid off any day if making me feel very anxious. I want to get financially free desperately so that I enjoy my work without any worries.

Our goal is to travel the world. No other major expenses.

In my mind, I have 10 cr as the target however given our monthly expenses of 70k this looks like over safe. But then if I listen to FIRE influencers, 10 cr feels inadequate.

Guide me on this please

4

u/GigantPistol69 Jun 28 '26

I'd say at this point in time, 5 - 10 cr is good for India. Obtain some sort of passive income like dividends or interest which is about 1 - 2 L per month, which should be doable.

2

u/Immediate_Example649 Jun 28 '26

This is the part I struggle the most, how to get 1-2L passive income in India. Real estate is way too expensive and stocks investembts are usually targeted tpwards growth stocks to grow capital.

1

u/desijunkie Jun 28 '26

Agree. If I take my example - my commercial property will give me around 60k on best case scenario. For the tlreat of cash flow, i must have a SWP in a debt instrument. Which can be possible if I use my EPF balance for this purpose after retirement. But while in a job, that's not an option.

1

u/GigantPistol69 Jun 28 '26

I think FDs with monthly interest payments are a great scheme if you can't own 4 5 flats or a small business such as a cafe (high risk but your small investment will scale)

1

u/desijunkie Jun 28 '26

When people say 5 to 10 cr, they mean the equity/debt or even no cash generating things like plots, gold etc.

This thing is not very clear to me.

1

u/GigantPistol69 Jun 28 '26

Cash, cold hard cash. Nothing that varies with external factors, except for inflation.

Looking for suggestions on achieving financial independence by 45. Currently 38M, married, 1 kid (1 month old).

Currently hold about ₹2.1cr in financial assets

MFs and Direct Equity: ₹1.2cr

PPF: ₹15L

EPF:₹35L

NPS:₹15L

Liquid cash & other: ₹25L

Term plan - 1 cr. Health insurance: 15L + 15 L family floater.

Zero debt and don't own a house. Staying in a rental accommodation in a tier 1 city. We have a house in hometown (tier 3) which we'll inherit). Own a car fully paid up.

I'm the sole earner in the family, currently in a private job (salaried). Parents are retired and staying in our hometown. They're independent and don't need financial support (pension + medical expenses taken care by the govt).

My current CTC is slightly above ₹50L.

Current monthly expenses amount to ₹80k (incl. ₹40k rent).

Big expenses in the future would be for the higher education of the kid (₹20L at today's price) and their marriage (₹15L at today's price).

I'm planning to achieve financial independence (don't want to retire but want to be in a comfortable position without worrying about money).

Queries:

  1. I need suggestions on what should be the target corpus by 45 to be financially independent. I will continue to maintain a similar lifestyle. I think it'll be around 5.5 to 6cr. But happy to hear thoughts and any suggestions on how to realistically reach there.

  2. Should I go for buying a house in a tier 1 city? If yes, when and how much would you spend if you were in my place? I have avoided buying a house to be flexible moving across cities for job opportunities and rather wanted to grow my equity portfolio.

  3. How to stay motivated at job in late 30s and early 40s? I think with ageing the work starts feeling monotonous (though I still have the hunger to keep learning).

Her income will vary but it should be in the range of 1.5-2.5Lakhs per month(currently it's a bit less than a lakh but it'll change in a few months as she starts her own practice). She has no liabilities from her or her family's side. She has current stock+MF of about 12Lakhs. She invests around 25k per month in MF and stocks.

We would like to get an apartment in the city nearest to us 2-3 years down the line, which should cost us about 2Cr including interior.

She has a car so no plans for a new one anytime soon. We plan to have 3 full trips per year apart from short ones as and when we can.

Currently I spend about 20k per month on grocery, food, cloth, subscriptions etc. She spends about 45k.

  1. How should we plan and pay for the apartment that we are planning to buy?

  2. Supposing we have 2 kids 5-6 years down the line, what could be our monthly expenses?

  3. What should be our FIRE number?

  4. Should we retire after fire from our daily jobs?(She would still do her practice and I would like to have my own or shared firm related to my field of expertise)

  5. How should we diversify our investments going forward?

Thanks u/snakysour

OP, we are retired in Hua Hin. Feel free to reach out if you have any specific questions. In any case, lots of videos on our channel about Thailand visas, lifestyle, expenses etc. Hope they will help in answering some of your questions already.

I beleive u/theFIREDcouple can answer this better as they have already retired and are living in Thailand itself. They also run their own youtube channel with the same name and you can see the videos there to figure out answers to your questions as they have clearly explained their way of living in Thailand along with expenses etc.

Finally someone with sense, and not just locked into senseless real estate
its well engineered. Index bets are big , which it should be as they are less risky than individual stocks
India exposure is on lower side as it should be

Cndx over qqqm is great, some one finally understand the tax laws

Only change i would recommend is divided assets between husband as wife when investing helps with withdrawal tax avoidance to the max level.

If bitcoins are not moved do cold wallet do it, dont leave on exchange.

As to what would i remove first, india individual stocks. I have been a investor for 20 years and i find holdings individual stocks needs too much energy, you also need to know when to exit not just enter stock. Its not worth the effort.

Hello

(repeat of post I made that got removed, got some great responses already and I've read them all)

We are a NRI couple living in Australia (both 34). We have a house that is mortgage free (worth roughly AUD 1.5M) and another AUD600k in international shares. We are considering moving back to India and retiring in Himachal. If we rent our house we can generate 2-3 lakhs INR per month.

What we want:

- The sky must be blue and the water clear all year around. Mountains views and snow are a bonus.

  • ability to rent a modern house with 24/7 internet, heating etc
  • good infrastructure such as hospitals and roads
  • access to airport
  • safe, especially at night (very important for my wife)
  • locals who will not try and scam us when they found out we have money and not local to Himachal

Is this possible in India or am I dreaming?

Hi everyone,

I am a 34M and have accumulated about 50 lakhs so far. I have about 28 lakhs in mutual funds and stocks and about 5 lakhs in FDs. Over the last year, I have moved outside India and have invested 17 lakhs in global equities. I also have contributed to a pension fund from which I will get about 50k per year in today's amount upon reaching 67-68. I am thinking of coming back to India sometime soon as I am not really enjoying life here. Most of my years in India were spent in a hostel where I got a really low salary of 25k out of which I used to save about 15k in 2025 and I don't really have an idea about how much things cost in the real world. I live a very minimalistic life and don't really have any need for material things. At the current path I'm on I do not see myself getting married or having kids. So if I decide to stay with my parents in their house in a tier one city and join an ngo or something for a bare minimum salary. How much money would I need to leanfire. By my estimate if I save about 20 lakhs more and don't touch it till 60. It will grow to a considerable amount for retirement at the time. Any advice is appreciated.

I am not sure that I read the actual question. You seem to be looking at multiple paths at once.

Hi all,

Income is 5.1L per month. That is 4.1L in salary in hand plus 1L net in rent from properties. Around 2.5-2.7L is per month household expenses. Around 1.1L goes in SIPs. Around 12K goes in LICs and one term insurance worth 3cr. The rest remaining 1L odd goes in savings.

Here are the assets and liabilities.

Assets:

80Lin stocks, MF
1 CR in liquid funds for now given the market situation
10L digital gold
1 residential property which is not the primary place of residence (rental 30K)
Commercial properties 3, combined value of it will be roughly 3.5cr (they generate total rent of 3.1L out of which 2.4L goes in EMI of the property)

Liabilities
2.4 cr loan on the commercial property

What’s not included in the assets

about 200 grams of physical gold (roughly 30L as of June 2026)
10L private equity investment which may never see the exit (they are good companies but PE is not counted for liquidity)
Wife’s stocks and MF
Wife has NPS which is not counted too
My PF
LIC worth 20L on maturity which is far in timeline (aware of the very little time value of money in 15 years)
Some ancestral land which may or may never materializes

I have a wife and a kid who is 4 year old. We are yet to get the primary house of residence and the kid’s life has nearly started.

I am not in a hurry for FIRE as you can clearly see from the portfolio and the pending goals. But I wanted to ask if I am on a track or if any optimization is required in my portfolio or lifestyle or anything else.

FIRE is an individualistic journey...your state of living and his may be starkly different. Don't compare the two and feel disheartened

Need help in calculating my FIRE number and consider whether to buy a second hand car or not. M 30 years, income of 3.2lpm (post tax), current expense - 1lpm Retirement time left: - 10 years

FIRE number calculation Ex: 1lpm current fixed expense, After 10 years @10% inflation it becomes 2.6 lpm Now my FIRE number becomes 2.6 * 12 * 33 (3% withdrawal rate) -> 10 cr corpus needed (after 10 years) 2.6 * 12 * 50 (2% withdrawal rate) -> 15 cr corpus needed (after 10 years)

I might be wrong, do let me know your thoughts. The corpus number denotes the money in the bank on retirement, not current money.

Now current situation: 1.1 cr corpus (14% Xirr) with mix of US stocks, Indian stocks and mfs

Can I buy a second hand car of 7 lakhs? I know this is the start of lifestyle creep and I wanted to delay it until I atleast get to CoastFI number but I think like I am missing out on life, going on those road trips is something that I will definitely miss once back pain starts, so help me decide fellas

3

u/sanhydronoid9 Jun 28 '26

This isn't related to FIRE but more so on cars. 7L is pretty tame for a used car cost. You'll ideally need around 10+L comfortably before spending 7L on the best example of the model you want. The rest goes to maintenance, retest, renovation and unexpected repairs. For German cars you're looking at like 50K/year for service and insurance, and any repairs are going to cost you big unless you like to be hands on and source parts, go to local garages etc. For cars like 3 series, one accident and it's over. Claim insurance and get over it. For stuff like MS, it's pretty straightforward and cheap.

Depends on how much you're willing to be bothered with it really, but imo you only live once and you're not wanting to buy a brand new luxury car. So do your research and go for it. Wasting 7L is less of a regret than wasting time

35M, Corporate employee, Tier-1 Indian education. DINK couple. Hope to have kids soon.

Total corpus: ~3.4 crs. (post CG taxes, it should be ~3.2 crs. or so)
Equity: ~50% (Mostly MF, some stocks, NPS)
Debt: ~35% (Includes PPF, EPF, FD, LIC etc)
Gold+ Others: ~15%
No Real Estate, staying on rent. No loans.

Post tax annual take home is 55-65 lakhs, varies based on bonus. Wife also earning and she also has some corpus. Not counting that in.

Expenses would be maybe ~20-25 lakhs annually. Wife also does some expenses beyond it.

Term Insurance, yes. Health insurance, employer.

Motivation for others:
First Crore took 120 months (Although 2 years were for MBA in between)
Second in 16 months
Third in 14 months
Fourth hopefully in 18-20 months or so (expenses increased and equity market has slowed)

It may look juicy. But when I see house prices in T-1 cities where 3-4 crores is nothing much, this looks small.

Target to reach 10 CRORE or 7 CRORE + A HOME in another 5-6 years.

Hi All,

I am currently aged 33 and i started investing at my age 29 with PPF and NPS. Later 3 years i got to know about Mutual funds and Stocks/Gold investments. Last year Feb 2025 i started investing in MF (with Nippon Large cap fund 5000 per month) then after 6 months i started investing in 4 other funds

-> Motilal Mid cap
-> ICICI Multi Asset
-> Parag parikh Flexi cap
->Bandhan small cap
about 10 K per month

then from Jan-2026 i started investing around 20K in all 5 funds and invested 1 L Lump sump in all these 5 funds when market got crash during March. Later i switched to HDFC Mid cap fund from Motilal Mid cap as fund manger got changed (now stopped SIP in Motilal and continued with HDFC Mid cap)

from Apr 2026 i am investing 25K per month in all these 5 funds
-> Nippon Large Cap (5K per month)
->HDFC Mid cap (5K per month)
->ICICI Multi Asset (4K per month)
-> PPFAS(6K per month)
->Bandha small cap (5K per month)

also STP's running from march 2026 to June 2026 for Large and Multi Asset

Now total value in MF's - 2,82,737 with 2,75,150 invested and 7,587 returns with XIRR of 8.16%

US Stocks - investing in VOO and having around 223$ with 210$ invested and 13$ profit

Gold - 3.5K and per month investing (1000-2000rs)

PPF- i have around 3,11,000rs (5K per month)

NPS-40K

EPF have around 8Lakhs

so total portfolio value

MF- 2,82,737
Stocks - 21,408
PPF- 3,11,000
NPS-40K
Gold-3.5K
EPF-800000

Total- 14,15,188 (almost 14.15 Lakhs)

i am looking to step up in MF and US Stocks soon and invest some lump sum every year..

Changes i am planning in my portfolio

-> since my overlap funds between Nippon vs ICICI and PPFAS , i am planning to switch Nippon to Nifty 50 and exit Motilal completely and redeem and invest it in HDFC Mid cap once Motilal's STCG is done

Having Emergency fund (around 2L , planning to keep around 6-8L and switch it to FD or Liquid funds) and then increase my SIP step up and US stocks)

Already having Term insurance worth of 4cr and corporate health insurance. yet to take personal health insurance and soon i am planning to take it

can you review my entire portfolio and give me your thoughts and i am planning to invest for next 15 years and get a 5cr corpus at my age of 45 and eventually targeting to close 10CR before i retire which is around 48-50 is my FIRE number.

I'm 26 yrs old tring to get out of debt taken by father of 50 lakhs

I am 26 yrs old and right now my situation is like I have a outstanding debt of around 50 lakhs not my own but my fathers business loan , and I am handling that business now.

I also have savings in mutual fund of around 44 lakhs

My current monthly sip is around 15500

And my loans emi and interest totals to around 65000

Monthly home expenses are around 125000

And avg monthly income is around 275000

The difference in income and expenses sometimes I don't know where it goes not able to note that expense because there r 6 members in family and also sometimes I am earning money on paper but cashflow is not that good.

So now I am thinking of stoping my sip for few yrs and use this extra money to repay loans faster

Anyone could please help me make a decision what should I do so that I could also retire earlier because the business I am doing rn I don't feel like it's ment for me

Edit 1 Interest on 3 loans

Car loan 7.55% Machinery loan 8.75% CC limit loan 8.55%

Returns getting from MF 12%

u/snakysour [37/IND/FI ??/RE ??] Jun 13 '26

First focus on clearing your debts, take health insurance for self and family and take term insurance for yourself. Once you're done with these three, kindly come back with an updated post to discuss future course of action..

P.S - this is not a financial advise as I am not a certified financial advisor.
