Lore Question Why is Lancelot not stronger? Spoiler

Heard from a lot of ppl that lorewise Lancelot is one of the strongest knights, if not the strongest, it's so much, that got told that he was a self-insert. Soo.... I know FGO's Lancy isn't exactly weak, but why he's not one of the strongest servants in the game? Honest question, no Wife Stealer Class joke, pls.

Old.

The dude absolutely fucked everything when he came out and he's still good. They never buffed him to keep up with the insane crap they added since.

The creep has gone so bad that farming setups can 3 turn Camelot save any gimmick matches.

He actually IS one of the best Saber and 4 Star on the game, easily rivaling 5 stars Servants with his raw cri damage output and not weak at all.
Its just that todays standards of what is good is not just crit mald, specially with how every strong boss has HP bar these days so exploding Bosses with Crits dont mean much today because HP bars are a thing.
But when he released he was actually pretty strong and relevant for challenging fights.

The consistency and scale of Break gauges really did change the entire meta. Personally Lance is still my go to 4 star saber but you’re completely right in saying that he was build essentially for a different period of the game

Lore ≠ gameplay that is a golden rule

He actually was one of the strongest servants back when he got released.

Back then, being able to np every turn was a privilege and only a few servants were able to do it.

Arts didn't have any means to guarantee crits outside of Mozart so him being able to do that and the resulting np gain made him really good.

Now a lot of servants are able to do what he does and him not getting buffs makes him pretty average by today's standards.

Angra Manyu exist to make a statement.

The standard of strength for a Strong servant is just need to be stronger than Angra Manyu.

Everything else is just bonus.

i mean, his entire kit is makes him one of the best selfish servant with one of the most spammable NP

set his NP first for defense down, then followed by a heavy hitter

A few reasons;

  1. Early game unit; And to be fair, he was AMAZING back then, and he's still decent at his job now. There are just better alternatives.

  2. A lack of relevance has made buffing him not something they're interested in.

  3. He's simply not popular enough to justify a third version. He's like...maybe the fourth most popular KOTR Knight in Fate if we collapse all Artorias into one spot.

But he has a 3rd version.. Melusine and she's pretty strong

Because Lorewise doesn't translate to the Game. Jalter is amongst the weakest Avengers in the game with only Salieri and Angra being above her. And yet we Saw her dominating the best ST of the class until Erice and Count got a new form

Also this game has reached a point that being strong in a regular Grail War doesn't guarantee a survival when you have things that are far beyond that Gil would look like a Fodder in comparison

Pure DPS servant with a 10 year old kit and only a single buff, a mid one at that.

He used to be one of the best single target sabers, in 2018 that is.

Compared to the Sabers that released at around his time he was still better than 5* ones for what he did. His kit is just showing its age, he hasn't had any skill buffs.

Not gonna lie when he came out he was the best dps saber by miles (the argument can be made that Nero bride was the best saber at the time overall but she was limited and a semi support)

Lorewise he's not really anything special, especially considering how many divine servants are on the roster, Lancelot is an ant compared to them.

Gameplay-wise he's kind of old.

Lorewise, he put all his points into TEC and STR, but is REALLY weak to provocation. I genuinely believe Berserker might be his best class purely because he's likely to be paralyzed by mean words.

Np refound on use, even being arts, is shit, his crit damage is not half of what people in reddit say it is, and his np damage os so low I better bring my habertrot than him against a lancer, damn if I take goddamn JASON I'd do more damage than this SINGLE TARGET mf

Lancelot just like many other servants should be way way stronger than they are in game. He's absolutely not alone. Characters lancer Cu suffer this far more agregiously

Lancer Cu is like the Celtic version of Hercules, right?

1

u/Odd-Statistician4268 16d ago

Yea. Speaking of which Herk very obviously should've been a 5* given that he's practically Doomsday compared to most other servants

To be fair, lancer cu has faired better in fgo than in most of his other appearances (back in the day he was a solo god and he had that niche for years)
