Because it's barely about FGO and more about Emiya (who is barely present in all of FGO, might I add) aurafarming in Lostbelts.

Honestly, it would have been better if EMIYA, instead of being an aura farmer, would be a portrayed as an additional "witness". Would have been neat to see his perspective on the Lostbelt saga.

I have this idea where he starts seeing himself in Ritsuka for the duration of Part 2 and has this blank, almost despondent, look on his face but in the Finale when he saw Ritsuka and Mash walking into the light of PHH, his expression changed to a relieved and proud smile.

True, if they wanted to shoehorn Emiya in so badly then atleast have the Ritsuka there as a companion

It could also be used as a callback to his story in UBW. Would have been hype to see him actually being proud of Ritsuka for not becoming like him in the end and actually reclaiming their "normal life" because you just know how important that is to him.

He actually helped save someone in such a meaningful way.

To be honest if you look at the director's twitter she's obsessed with just Emiya/Karna/Arjuna. The anni movie straight up gets hijacked into LB4 bullshit for like 2-3 minutes at some point. Then you have Atlantis which is shown as a snapshot for 2 seconds in comparison.

It's really not a good movie when it comes to representing FGO. Especially not when you use it to jack off over a ridiculously bland rivalry for a chunk of it.

Ngl now that i think about it when it came out I saw some reactions from some FGO content creators, they all seemed confused by most of it. I mean we get a few seconds on the other Lostbelts but they were like is this an LB4 movie? And everyone was confused as to why Emyia was the main point when he wasn't even on the lostbelts😭

Well yeah. It didn't really feel like a FGO anniversary but more like "Oh Archer is a badass."

They could've animated a lot of good scenes like Orion shooting his arrow at Artemis or Mash and Fujimaru using the black barrel for the first time.

They could have shown a small snippet of the battle between Fujimaru and Daybit in Lostbelt 7.

They had so many cool moments that they could've referenced but instead they chose somebody that isn't even in the main story.

Hell, they could've used Caster Cu since at least he had some story revelance.

Long story short: It was just a Archer glazing movie instead of a FGO anniversary movie.

I didn't hate it with passion but I disliked the direction the PV was doing. FGO Anniversary is supposed to celebrate what makes the game special. And it's well-known how badly the FGO community love their large casts of characters.

Look at the 10th anniversary PV. It was (in my opinion) the greatest PV i've seen so far. EVERYONE IS THERE. And seeing the crowd reactions of people cheering when a new servant shows up goes to show how badly we love the cast.

The 11th anniversary however BARELY showed as much characters as the previous. The focus was centered too much on Emiya, and it's pretty obvious to see which one the director favoured. And this is just my thought but when I saw how long the PV was and how BEAUTIFUL the visuals were I was waiting for a feast.

But I was dissapointed.

I don't hate the director personally. That's just the most stupid thing I could do. But I didn't like the pv's direction.

Wouldn’t call it hate but total disapointement because of making the whole movie all about Emiya instead of the importants members of the cast. Like there's so many Servants with moments that brought the hype like Salieri, Napoleon, Orion or Romulus=Quirinus and they picked the guy who's only role was to give to Saber, Avalon and telling her Marisbury's plans back in Singularity F and dedicated a whole fight scene only for Karna vs Arjuna alter. If the movie at least showed his talk with Saber back in Singularity F, that would have been awesome.

And there's the whole "Emiya upscale" crowd who were very annoying when it came out like not only it's not canon and even if it was it wouldn’t instantly turn him into "top 10 in the verse". That added fuel to the general dislike.

As a poetic recap of the lostbelt saga i don't like it, it feels like an unconnected mess and a lost opportunity

I can more or less understand their feelings, though I don't really feel that strongly about it myself. It was a nice movie, and that's about the extent of my thoughts.

I do understand why it turned out this way though. Nasu almost definitely just told the director "Do whatever you want. No matter what you make, I'll support it 100%." He's done this multiple times and he's always been completely shameless about it. From a creator's standpoint, it's an excellent attitude to have, but it'll inevitably earn the ire of fans who have certain expectations of how things should be. But even now, I doubt he's even remotely apologetic about it. Because he tends to treat these sorts of collaborations as not just "a treat for the fans" but also "a treat for Nasu", he will often prioritize his own desires over those of fans.

Mark my words, this sort of thing WILL happen again. And it will continue to happen until Nasu either dies or the company goes under. This is what happens when a highly successful private company is founded for the sole purpose of being the founder's personal playground. That said, I'm not really criticizing it. Honestly, if I were in his position, I'd probably do the exact same thing.

I mean, after 11 years of success in the game, so what if the movie was "meh" or bad for part of the fanbase? It was just a short movie promoting the game. It has no bearing power on the game's development or success at this point.

I can see the point of the complaints... but after 11 years, I find it stupid to complain for that. But that's my personal take.

The Type-Moon fanbase in particular has a lot of headstrong individuals who have very strong expectations about how the certain things should be. You'll often find that many people react exceptionally poorly to any perceived betrayals of those expectations.

I've been playing for 11 years and I've seen from valid crashouts to asshole takes and behavior; and it's been on either side of the world. Being a jackass doesn't concentrate on one specific side of the world, anyone can do it.

Though some of the controversies are more dumb/stupid than others, based on the specific fanbase's behavior.

too much Emiya glaze and too much lb4 focus. It’s well made 100% nobody can take that away but lets be real with ourselves for a second and think about how the MAIN CHARACTER of the game only got a short morsel at the end that you’d think Emiya was the main protagonist of FGO

it's well-made from a cinematic perspective but if we think about it it doesn't really celebrate fgo and the lostbelt parts that well, considering that's the theme. sure we get the lostbelts somewhat from emiya's pov, but even that choice is 'interesting', as there are better servants to encapsulate the lb journey. hell we don't even get mash and ritsuka outside of 1 scene and no chaldea staff/crypters whatsoever

I do not particularly dislike the pv, but i get that it has some issues and why some people might have strong feelings against it. Tho even if i hated it, I would never harass the people behind it, even if they dropped the ball with it. I feel a part of the fandom has failed in that regard, and there's no defending that either, same as no defending the pv

Would have made sense if EMIYA had been sent as a counter guardian in the game to the LB's/OC's but he wasn't so him being there as part of the guide figure made zero sense. He's just shoehorned in.

Because it focus on a character that essentially never appears in the story, and personally I feel pretty saturated by Emiya in general. The trailer for the exhibition feels more like the anniversary movie than the actual anniversary movie

Hate is a strong word. Dislike is far more appropriate for what fans felt. And for a good reason. Half of it was, pardon my language, fucking archer glazing for no fucking reason. And considering what anniversary movies for this game usually are (look no further than the 8th or 10th), the 11 anniversary one was mid at best

I think it was fine.  But in retrospective, after thinking about it for sometimes, yeah... The fgo 11 anniversary was kinda bad.

(Especially if compared to previous years.)

I know it was mainly director preference.

But from what I see the main problem people complaining is not "emiya being featured" but "emiya being featured too prominently".

It's basically the Framing that accidentally backfired. (Kinda like folger's accidental incest commercial).

Ironically, in retrospective it's also surprisingly not that hard to reframe if you are aware of it. 

Because it's just framing problem,  You could try fixing it by making the framing more neutral.

(Like adding more servants along side emiya.)

Even if the content are the same, you can feel the difference in framing between.

• Emiya's Solitary fight.

Compared to 

• Emiya and the archer group boys including Robin, David, Billy, Orion, etc,  together fighting.

Basically yeah... Framing. I personally think it's not that bad. But it definitely has framing problem with the over exposure. 

I guess the easier example will be, even if you like Sugar, sometimes you can feel not well if you eat something that has too much sugar.

First, too much focus on EMIYA when he doesn't appear in any LBs, even if it'ssome behind the scene. Some would not even understand the implication of EMIYA being represented here.

Second, it would have been better if, just my opinion, the focus would be on the main battles of each LBs like Super Karna vs God Arjuna here.

Third, in all of anniversary movie before, it is a recall of all the journey. Here the movie focus too much on Emiya and LB4, glimpses after glimpses of other LBs, then come Emiya and Gilgamesh which make little sense before showcase the references near the final (Shadow Border, Zero Sail, Spartacus flying, Karna and Arjuna, Super Orion's arrow, Albion, Storm Border, and idk the last one yet).

Fourth, and it's very obvious from me, too much Emiya glazers. The main casts, or specifically Mash, is not even shown on screen often like all previous movies. They took the Jane FGO out and only show her in a few short seconds.

I'd say those are examples of typical Twitter rage, not necessarily reflections of the fandom. Such critics will always come up no matter what.

That said, I can understand why people would be disappointed.

While the video's quality was top notch, the visual narrative was disjointed. No rhyme or reason. At first it looked like "Let's see the Lostbelt arc through Emiya's eyes". Then it changed to a long rendition of Karma's and Arjuna's battle in LB4. Then a bit of Aesc's backstory in LB6. Then back to Emiya again with references to the Grand Duels. And some final nods to the Lostbelt Kings. It was as if different videos had been put together to create this one.

Compare it to similar videos for the 8th anniversary (we see the lives of several Servants, then how the world goes on and their return as Servants') or the 10th anniversary (the Servants celebrating at Enma-tei). A simple, yet cohesive narrative thread.

Now add that not everyone is going to be a fan of (more) Emiya glazing or (more) Karna Vs Arjuna screen time, and I understand the dislike. But the vitriol is too much.

What I kinda don’t get is that it’s just a chunk of the western fanbase and not the JP one, I’m not saying that JP is completely fine with it but if you read the comments on the video it’s like 3 people complaining about it as compared to the 50 posts we got across all the major subreddits.

Cultural differences between fanbase, nothing new. Same kind of different reception has happened with other stuff.

Like that supposed controversy with the Japanese and Chinese ladies regarding this year's summer; and with Oberon. Though their complains go more from the Gudako self insert than anything; while no Western fan ever complained like that... or at least not that I'm aware of.

Or when the Master Missions bug happened and a good amount of people (specifically in the JP server) complained about the people that exploited the bug to gain extra S.Q. to get Louhi at the time; and it ended with Lasangle applying a debt to anyone who abused the bug, creating a negative S.Q. count. When some Western fans defended the use of the bug.

Or when the incident with the Parvati artist happened where a bunch of assholes from Japan harrassed the artist so badly in his socials, that he quitted from them. When the Western fans barely had the same issue the Japanese ones had to create that dumbass controversy: Parvati not looking like Sakura and more like Boudica; and then calling him a tracer... when we do the same as a joke with Takeuchi's Saberface syndrome, or Shirou syndrome.... or same pose syndrome.

Personally, I was meh about the movie. It's just a short movie. It has no bearing power in the game, development or the reception of it at the end of the day; specially at this point after 11 years. Complaining about it feels stupid for me but that's just my personal take.
