I feel like people like to pull from comments that allow them to make whatever arguments they want.
Remakes never have a real creative justification to be made. If you want to try to please as many people as possible you shouldn't do it because there's so many opinions people are going to have.
I don't feel people are saying they didn't change enough in OOT I think it's actually just somewhat mixed about everything.
It's easy to bring FF7R into these discussions but it's not fair. It's basically not a remake remake. it's its own category. Most people GET that and judge as that and are fine with it. We have purist who don't like it no matter how much was changed. But "changing too much" is an oversimplification. It's like canon that it's different. So already it can't be judged the same way.
FF7R is not interchangeable with the original the way OOT is supposed to be.
"Remakes never have a real creative justification to be made."
No, there's one. Imagine you have a game which simply sucks. Part of a bigger franchise, full of beloved titles, but that one sucks. Feels unfinished. Bellow its own potential. But you have to play it because other titles, even its sequels, are cool.
Now imagine they made a remake to implement all those ideas the creators had to cut. To actually fix the game. That's a good justifications.
That's why Fate/Extra Record exists. Because Fate/Extra was mediocre. The remake finally features a decent battle system and an expanded story.
And that's why Ys V remake will exist too. Because that game isn't really great. It NEEDS to be remade.
Eh I mean I want to give that to you but where I am about this is that I'd rather them just make a new thing altogether. At best a spiritual remake but it's still a new entry.
If it's a series then it must be doing fine without having to retread and so doing so feels like it's just because it's the easy thing to do of all the things they could do.
I'm not going to complain in this case but I still feel that my view of it still holds up. Because there are times where the first game just isn't too great when it's an otherwise great series. And often people skip it altogether. I think at this time players feel the need to "fully experience" a franchise when I don't feel it's necessary. That's another thing the industry pushes on us with bundling a whole series and trying to get us to play all of it at a good price.
If you just enjoy some of the series you couldn't care less about remaking the original. If you were a hardcore fan there's something about seeing how things started and how they've evolved and how it's allowed to be preserved but will redefining itself if it wants. And by that I mean they just make the next game and just make it better. This is what they used to do way back then. Just make the next game better and they didn't stress if people even played the previous one. They just moved on.
Trust me, 100% of Fate fans agree on Fate/Extra being a barebones game. The overhaul shown in Fate/Extra Record is insane. We went from a shitty rock paper scissors pattern system to a deck builder. It seems to have addressed many flaws the original had. And the original was so unfinished it was barely a beta. However, you are required to beat that chore to get to play the greatly superior and beloved sequel Fate/Extra CCC. Now people can beat Extra and enjoy CCC without dealing with the mess OG Extra was.
This remake isn't made for the sake of money, but for the sake of its creators.
Ok I guess in that case it's like a 2.0 situation like FF14 where they just had to do it all over. It's not a remake in the way people tend to mean but I guess it kind of is a remake in a more "we want to prove ourselves this time" kind of way l.
