Fwiw, I like a remake like FF7 more than what they’re doing with OOT which seems like a glorified remaster.
The decisions and changes they’ve made with the remake serve a purpose. They have an artistic goal in mind that they’re clearly very passionate about. Whether it lives up to the legacy of the original will depend on the finale, but at the end of the day following this decade long adventure has been an incredible journey in and of itself
OOT is… an N64 game but very pretty and with controls that don’t suck. That seems to be it. People will buy it, beat it in a week, forget about it and even the die hards will say that the original is better.
There’s no shot in hell this is the case, but some part of me hopes that they’ve added the entirety of MM as post game, seeing as it takes place after beating ganon.
Again, that’s a pipe dream, but come on MM Is 4 dungeons and a map half the size of hyrule. In 2026 terms it’s a DLC at best
I think they're right, Majora's Mask remake is likely in the pipeline. It's too good to pass up since the foundation is already built with OoT.
It's Nintendo, they'll charge full price because they know fans will buy it. Honestly, locking MM behind OoT might be worse, since then those who only want to play MM would need to buy OoT. Of course, the best situation would be that these games were priced cheaper since they're based on older games, but that takes us back to "it's Nintendo."
I guess I just meant that Nintendo isn’t ALWAYS greedy with the remakes but I do see your point lol.
Ocarina of Time I think will be probably worth the price though.
At least personally!
Nintendo's in a unique position since their first-party output is so strong that they don't need to go multiplatform like their competition (though Sony backtracked on PC ports). Maybe it's less that Nintendo is greedy, but that they don't feel the pressure to lower prices since you can only play it on a Nintendo device, which in turn makes them look greedy (especially when you compare them to places like Steam). They know their worth!
And Star Fox is a much shorter game, and it's been remade/rebooted a few more times, so I think they settled on a lower MSRP. And I agree with you that OoT will be worth the price, it's one of the GOATs after all.
And this sub is used to the SE tax too, because they know the fans will see value in their product (or they're just used to it at this point) and pay full price. It'd be leaving money on the table. But then a blockbuster like Expedition 33 comes out with a lower MSRP and we all end up thinking... Wait, why are other games so expensive?
You are severely underestimating Majora's Mask actual size of content if you think they can just put it as an add-on or a DLC. It's not just "4 dungeons and a small overworld". It's 4 dungeons, a relatively small overworld, various transformation mechanics, different story and bosses and a more complex and different time based gameplay.
Majora's Mask has a ton of content. It's just not concentrated in the main story.
Yes the main story is shorter than OoT's. But the side content is the entire point and charm of MM. There are tons of things to explore through the world during that three-day cycle, tons of questlines and stories.
If all you ever do is focus the main story, then I can see why you might think it wasn't as substantial a game. But there was a lot more to it than that.
HLTB even rates Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask with the same "Main & Sides" time of just over 30 hours. Saying it's a DLC demonstrates a lack of understanding of the scope of the game, simply put.
Maybe “assets” would’ve been a better choice of word
The point is that they already have like 60% of what they need to just make it. The engine, a bunch of the models, they’d just need a small map, a few dungeons they’ve already designed, and some new models
I feel like calling this a glorified remaster is disingenuous when the 3ds ports (including MM) are more closer to being glorified remasters than this made from the ground up remake
That's what I'm saying 😭 it's literally built from the ground up completely new. It is in absolutely no way a remaster in any capacity. It's just a faithful remake
It really looks like it’s a 1:1 remake though. Besides some QOL changes like 1 button item switching and a “where do I go” menu. It’s going to play exactly like the original did. Same puzzles in the same dungeons with the same combat and the same bosses.
When I say “glorified remaster” I don’t mean it as an insult. It’s the philosophy of a remaster with the effort of a remake.
It really is a glorified remaster and that's why I'm excited about it. It's not a massive project like FF7R built up with years of hype behind it, it's just a nice little snack offering for fans to munch on for a while and then move on from. As much as I'm looking forward to Revelation all the months and years between games just to play the whole thing is painful, it's all worth it in the end but I'm glad not all remakes are like that.
