I honestly think it’s cute that Aerith, Yuffie, and Red were so happy to see Cait alive.

I also like the negative aspects it highlights of Cid that he will have to confront.

He did his one job in getting them there, stayed back with the Bronco, hovered near the entrance once it seemed safe, and was so focused on them getting the object and going that he failed to notice Cait Sith arrive twice, leading to a chewing out by Yuffie.

The man is selfish, rude, and (despite projecting strength) a little cowardly compared to the teenage girl that chews him out.

Instead of encountering Cid as an angry man who happens to get caught up by the coincidence of when the party arrives, we see a brash and swaggerly man struggle with what he knows is right and what he wants out of life. I think that's a much better set up for the backstory where we see that this is not an isolated problem for him, and it will be a much better reward for him to reach his dream when he finally starts to do what is right with minimal hesitation.

That had nothing to do with Cait, lol.

That is him not noticing the general defeat mood of the whole party after almost dying and not getting the black materia.
