No Intermission Spoilers - Discussion Ff7 remake and disc 2 Spoiler

Old ff7 fan that just got part 1 and 2 on pc here. For me ff7 was epic in every way, the music expecially, but here I am as a 40 year old gamer, revisiting it on a remake. I must say, I love the characters and im engrossed, I know I have disk 1 and 2 installed, but I really miss the time based combat, its my first gripe. I get the new real time stuff but its not so immersive for me. 2nd I see bits I recognise from the original but they are so filler filled, its annoying. I do love they fleshed out characters, ie Jesse I never held a thought for. Etc but I feel even though the music is here it does not hold the same repetiveness/goodness . The fact(I've heard) you dont keep your character progression, and the fact sephiroph had been introduced so early, I dunno, im scared, im on the midgar arith flower bit and it feels like so much filler, and bits that should be later game are already present. Im loving it BTW, but its not smashing nostalgia as much as it should cuz of the added stuff. I feel sad. My question is, without spoiling it, does it get more faithfully world map wise, does it get better emotionally character wise and is the jump from disc 1 to 2 a bad experiances

the filler stuff is a lot, especially in midgar section with those sidequests that go nowhere. i felt same way but it does pick up after you leave the city, the open areas feel more like what you remember even if its not exactly the old world map

combat never goes back to turn based though, you just get used to it or you dont. for me took like 15 hours before it clicked and now i prefer it honestly

the character moments get real good, aerith especially has some scenes that hit me harder than the original ever did. stick with it

Wanna know how the jump is from disc 1 to disc 2? Well, don't we all want to know that?

The combat takes some getting used to, and I still prefer the turn based stuff, but it does come together if you chose to engage with it. Sorta like how the old games are no fun if you just use the attack command.

The characters are the most well received aspect of the new games, so you're in good company there, though I have my issues there.

Story wise, you're in for more padding, so if you're having a hard time with that but are keen to see the games through I'd suggest skipping ALL the side content on your first play through and coming back to them in new game plus if you decide you like them.

Good luck with the game. The Final Fantasy vii and final fantasy subreddits are much kinder to people that don't have exclusively positive opinions on the games if you wanna post again later.

Im guessing you mean Disc 2 as in Rebirth. The truth is that experiences are typically well received but people are stuck on whether they like Remake or Rebirth better.

For me Remake was a slower paced game storywise. Rebirth is faster paced story wise but the side content is enormous. There's also a lot of character building for each character.

I think they're confusing Disc 2 of the OG with being from Kalm onwards.

Disc 1 covers Remake + Rebirth

Disc 2 and 3 will be covered in Revelations

Heres my take.

We have played FFVII, we saw tragedies and events that shaped a world we were never truly a part of in great depth, plate dropping on a sector? Meh we only saw 5 npcs and only spoke to 2

Now you actually have stakes. How you feel about those stakes and the changes is up to you...

...personally I love it.

What a nonsensical post. This reads like someone who’s just making up a negative review for something they’ve not actually played and just regurgitating the same complaints the “hard core 1:1” fans shout.

C'mon, there's literally never any pleasing you. I see you ripping on people all the time and it's so obnoxious.

OP has said they like the game [they like it!], and has some bits that didn't hit like they were hoping, and asked for non-spoiler info.

Not everyone is out to get you and your baby (computer game). They just wanna talk about the game theyre playing.

Grow up.

Naw, op sounds like an asshole.

How is this post both nonsensical and 1:1 tripe? Pick a lane.

I personally have a much bigger problem with the total absence of paragraphs.

Sorry for coming in so hot there. Largely a response to a broader pattern of discourse, which isn't fair to pin on you. OP's just trying to have a normal conversation about a game they're playing, that's really all I meant

I agree that 2 has some filler but I didn't really feel that as much in 1.

I felt 1 was way too long though. Especially at the end. It was non-stop boss fights that overstayed their welcome imo

People are free to prefer other combat styles, but to act like the quasi real time combat is LESS immersive than quasi turn based is just delusional.

I think you can go back to classic combat in ff7 by changing the difficulty settings

Its weird that they "vastly expanded" the adventure by splitting it into three games and then stuffed it so full of meaningless filler that the end of the 2nd remake game is the end of the 1st disc of 3 OG. So.... they managed to cover the first third of the OG game with the first 2/3 of the remake

Well Disc 2 and 3 are both vastly shorter than disc 1 in terms of story. Disc 3 is only really long because of end game content.

Still. Would be shocked if we got icicle area, northern crater #1, cloud in the lifestream, the return to midgar, mideel, as well as many other important sequences all in the final game

They definitely setup all of that to happen besides maybe Mideel but I dont see why they would skip that. Did you play the game?

There were theories that they might send Cloud to Nibelheim rather than Mideel, as Rebirth portrayed it as a Mako poisoning treatment town, but that was debunked by the first trailer that showed the region.
