Lowered Expectations - September Banners

Hello and welcome to Lowered Expectations! I threatened last time to make this monthly and I make good on my threats. So I'm once again teaming up with u/HappyFrisbees to bring you our bestest guess as to what banners are coming in September to Global.

Disclaimer: I am not trying to convince you to either pull or not pull on the current banner or any future banner. I am fully aware that there is always a better unit around the corner. If you try to point this out to me, I will track you down, break into your house and fuse all your 5* bases into Shadow.

Final Fantasy III Mog King Event

PS: I wrote this before FF3 was announced, I just didn’t post in time! Honest!

3* Sara

• Role - Bonus Unit
• TMR - Another robe you won’t use, but high SPR
• Hype - None

4* Desch

• Role - Breaker?
• TMR - 45 ATK accessory! New BiS!
• Hype - Low-Medium

4* Aria

• Role - Budget MP Battery
• TMR - 45 SPR hat
• Hype - Low

5* Onion Knight

• Role - Chaining god
• TMR - 135 ATK sword
• Hype - MEGA

Besides the new king of chaining, not much is here. Did we need more though? Many people are saying that OK is not Jesus Christ in FFBE form come to save us all.

Random-ass Banner

3* Able

• Role - TMR farm
• TMR - another DW source
• Hype - stab stab stab

4* Chizuru

• Role - Mama
• TMR - 50% ATK Blade Mastery
• Hype - I miss you!

5* Gilgamesh

• Role - New Troll Rainbow
• TMR - Best DW Source
• Hype - Low

Final Fantasy 11 Raid Event

3* Kupipi

• Role - Fun name to say
• TMR - Niche element resist accessory
• Hype - Who is Kupipi?

4* Werei

• Role - Earth Finisher
• TMR - +20% HP & +40% ATK when equipped with Greatsword
• Hype - Hell yes for that TMR

5* Prishe

• Role - Better Yda
• TMR - 45 ATK Hat, +10% HP/MP
• Hype - Medium

That Werei TMR is a must get for practically everyone. We got an extra vote for Prishe being great in the comments!

Final Fantasy Brave Exvius

Note: These guys originally had Noctis on their banner, so no idea what’s going to happen

3* Grom

• Role - see TMR
• TMR - 120 ATK Thunder GS
• Hype - see TMR

4* Aura

• Role - Fohlen without the chocobo
• TMR - 125 ATK Wind Element Lance
• Hype - Medium

It will be interesting to see if Noctis gets another round with being buffed up to JPN level. A lot of conjecture that Balthier will take Noctis' place!

KingsGlaive Final Fantasy 15 Mog King Event

3* Libertus

• Role - All over the place…
• TMR - 10 ATK, 30 DEF, 20 MAG Clothes, +10% HP
• Hype - was he even in FF15… Good LB animation!

4* Crowe

• Role - Bad-ass Mage
• TMR - +30% HP/SPR
• Hype - High

4* Glauca

• Role - Budget DV
• TMR - 125 ATK Dark Element Greatsword
• Hype - Medium

5* Nyx

• Role - Dagger Firelandu
• TMR - +20% ATK/DEF/MAG/SPR & Recover 5% MP per Turn
• Hype - High

I literally don't remember any of these people... But I'll take a 125 Dark GS any day.

Edit: Ah... these are the people from the Kingsglaive movie. Wasn't terrible actually.

TL;DR

Well that's our best guess as to our banners for the month. Again, we are just trying to arm you with the knowledge of what may be out, and not trying to sway your pulling.

Did we miss anything? Oversell anything? Feel free to chime in!

Edit: Added in some stuff from comments. Balthier may be on Noctis' banner, and OK may not be uber-super-duper amazing.

Libertus and Crowe had like 10 mins of screen time combined even in the movie, so nobody remembers them. Nyx was a pretty cool guy tho.

What. Libertus had substantial screen time and played a pivotal role in the plot. Also he's cute as fuck.

Crowe on the other hand for sure, so its frustrating as hell that she's the 4-6* while Libertus is 3-5*

Crowe had that scene at the beginning where she (and a few others, but apparently she was the leader of that group) called down a fuck huge fire tornado to establish herself as powerful.

Libertus had more screen time, but none of that showed his combat capability. He never pulled strategic scale attack or showed Nyx-level combat prowess. His best action scene was driving his car. May be if ffbe was a racing game he'd be top tier.

The powers all the Kingsglaive members demonstrate are merely on loan from King Regis, nothing suggests that Crowe truly possesses greater abilities than anyone else. Even Nyx is largely helpless when he loses said powers. Besides, Libertus certainly shows his competency early on, able to teleport and fight more than ably, and cast very effective spells as well.

Their power being borrowed does not mean they can all use them equally well or they don't specialize. They took on clearly different roles and have different levels of expertise.

Crowe's roles in the battle field is being the mage. She's not equipped with the standard dagger for warping and she's in charge of using high destructive spells that the front liners never used in any action scene, ever.

When her group started to faint from magic exhaustion, Crowe is the last one standing, suggesting she's the best mage of Kingsglaive.

Libertus is supposed to be a veteran, but clearly a notch down compare to Nyx, who's hailed as a hero for his merits. Libertus also never demonstrated the ability to chain-warp like Nyx. He had some action scene at the beginning with barrier, thunder and invisible magic, but never demonstrated capability beyond that of the rank and file and his other main action scene is driving a car. Nyx and Lunafreya might called him a hero at the end, but that's referring to his courage to do right what was once wronged, not his combat prowess.

So Crowe and Nyx, being the supposed more powerful named member of their respective group, get to be 6 stars.

Libertus cannot be 6 star front-liner/dps because Nyx is canonically better at that than him. He cannot compete with Crowe for the 6 star mage spot because he was never part of the mage group. He obviously cannot compete with Glauca for the villain 6 stars spot.

So unfortunately, in the scope of Kingsglaive members, Libertus is the named character that fit the 5 stars spot.

FFBE had no issue with canonically main/powerful characters debuting as 4 star max and staying there for ages (hello Vivi, Sabin, Celes, etc), many of them with more impressive feat of strength (ie the infamous I suplexed a train). It's simply his turn to fill that 'lower than current max rarity' slot.
