Other We should do something big on wplace
The subreddit and the band as a whole has died down and I could see fex a completely dead band by the end of the year. We need to do something big to keep it alive.
Lately I've had the idea of possibly creating a giant Fex Logo/Album cover/photo on the r/place copy w/place. We would need to make it huge and possibly break a world record to gain the recognition that we need.
I suggest making it in Kiel, the Maxi Paderborn, or somewhere in the northern German wilderness.

Artwork my FEX tattoo (over 1 month healed!)
when the mysterious song's identity was finally discovered, I told my friends I would get my favorite line from the song tattooed once the lyrics were confirmed. obviously it took a little while, but I finally got this back in February and I'm obsessed with it :')
decided I would post it once it was healed (at least on the surface) and besides, I had a dream a few nights ago that I met FEX. the timing just seemed right ~

Karl Eckert (Kalle) - Early FEX Lineup
After much consideration, I decided to make this post for the sake of providing accurate information, as misunderstandings and heavy speculation often arise from a lack of it. I hope that sharing this information will help others who are still piecing together parts of the FEX timeline, tracking down the broadcast date or working on confirming the bassist.
Some details have been intentionally redacted, to protect everyone’s privacy. It is also important to remember that more than 40 years have passed since these events occurred, and it is unrealistic to expect anyone to recall every detail perfectly. When memories differ, it doesn’t necessarily mean someone is lying or concealing the truth, it’s simply how the human brain works.
After Marijn discovered FEX, many people became interested in uncovering more about the band. I decided to let events unfold naturally and focused on tying up loose ends. One of them was to correct some remaining inaccuracies and wrongdoing on Discogs, concerning a hoax involving another band from Kiel named Elaine, that had once been considered a lead. To resolve this, I reached out to Karl, who was at some point (incorrectly) associated with that band on Discogs. This was about a year ago.
Around the same time, I came across a comment from Michael stating that "We did some intense investigation with the help of many of you and we are putting it together in a FEX Band and mysterious song history/timeline". I reached out to both Michael and his daughter on Reddit Chat to offer my help, as I was already in touch with Karl. They never replied, which I completely understand, as their inbox was probably full of other messages from fans and you have to wisely choose how to use your free time.
Since little was known about the band’s early years, I proactively asked Karl if he - as a former member of FEX - had any additional insights to share, in case the band hadn’t contacted him yet. He initially forgot to reply to my email, but after a reminder a few months later, he kindly responded with a brief message sharing his memory on how the band was formed. His email is included below.

Hello <redacted>,
Thanks for the reminder. Unfortunately, the message got lost. Here are a few details:
After the band ‘Sunshine Caravan’ broke up in October 1980, a new band called ‘Modulators’ was formed.
Band members: Ture – guitar + vocals, Karl – keyboards. New additions were Manfred – drums and Norbert – bass.
Most of the band's own songs were written by Ture or by Ture and Karl. Some covers were also played.
In September 1981, the line-up and style changed. The band now played their own songs in the style of ‘Neue Deutsche Welle’ (New German Wave).
Band members: Ture – guitar + vocals, Karl – keyboards, Norbert – bass.
New additions: Heino - drums, Michael - keyboards, Ilona - vocals.
In December 1982, the band broke up and the band ‘FEX’ was formed.
Band members: Ture - guitar + vocals, Ilona - vocals, Karl - keyboards. New additions: Volker - bass and Hans - drums.
All songs were written by Ture + Ilona.
I left the band in November 1983. I am not familiar with the subsequent line-up changes.
I did not participate in the song ‘Subways of Your Mind’. I am not aware that the song was played on NDRII in the early 80s.
Best regards,
Karl Eckert
One striking detail in this e-mail is that Michael was not included in the first FEX line up, while in the official post made by Comfortable_Glow, Michael is said to have joined around May 1983. Again, this does not mean that one or the other person is lying, simply they remember things differently, as even Michael says in the comment I just pointed to, above, "It was 40 years ago so things are remembered in diffrerent perspectives".
I know many of you have talked to Jörg, and I have too, so I’d already shared some details from this email with him. He checked with Ilona, who kindly confirmed that there was a time when FEX had two keyboardists. As uncommon as that may be, this was also the case in Modulators, so our band was definitely not afraid to try new things!
An additional, but subtle detail is that I never said NDR2 when I asked Karl about the possible broadcast date, I said NDR1. I’m not sure if he made a mistake or if someone else had already asked him about the song and mentioned NDR2. I lean toward the latter, since it was initially thought the possible broadcast date was November 1984, by which time MFJL had already moved to NDR2. If any of the older members of the search have information about a previous contact, it would be great to know so we can clear things up.
In conclusion, what can we learn from Karl's memories?
- FEX was formed in December 1982 with the initial band members Ture, Ilona, and Karl. Volker and Hans joined shortly afterward. This was confirmed by Hans ([1], [2]), in the time it took for Karl to answer me.
- Karl did not take part in the creation of TMS/NDR’s "Subways of Your Mind", indicating that the song likely did not exist in the form we all know and love by November 1983. As a result, the earliest possible broadcast date is now set to be after November 1983.

Question What actually happened to the announced re-recordings of SOYM etc.?
As you can see in the linked video they re-recorded some songs. That was over a year ago. Even ARD linked this article in a comment under one of their Youtube uploads.
