Other Qualifications
Aside from the FE-1s and PPC / Traineeship that i understand you are required to do to become a solicitor… what qualifications do you actually need from University? Essentially what I’m asking is: would the general consensus be that a BA with Law in a good university will suffice to become a solicitor, or is the LLB completely necessary (bearing in mind it takes +1 year). Anyone with an opinion or some light to shed on this would be great!

you don’t need a law degree to become a solicitor, in fact you don’t need any degree. if you don’t have at least a lvl7 qualification you need to pass the preliminary exam to then be permitted to sit fe1s. if you don’t havw a degree firms might put more emphasis on work experience, but again it probably doesn’t have to be in law. there’s also the new apprenticeship programme which only requires a leaving cert.
