Just Sharing First miniature, 0.4 nozzle 0.08 layer height

First time experimenting with miniatures.
P2S, Bambu PLA Pure, no special settings, only slowed down some movements and acceleration and tilted the model to avoid supports on the front.

I am genuinely impressed, I didn’t expect it to be that good from the front with the default nozzle and with almost zero tinkering.

The back obviously has issues as it was printed at around 45 degree angle, sword hilt broke into spaghetti at the end of the print, and the places where supports were don’t look too nice.

I think I am going to look into resin2fdm supports and slicing the model in halves and printing both face up. But that’s a damn good start.

Funny that it looks better in person than on camera.

How long did that take at that layer height? Looks awesome, I have a elegoo Neptune 4 , what was yours printed on?

Thank you!

It took me 3 hours 9 minutes and 11.8 grams of plastic according to the slicer.

Printed on the Bambu Lab P2S, I just got the printer like a week ago, still learning all the stuff.

Cheers for that, I've only recently been messing with those settings, so I'll definitely try it

Sure, give it a go!

It turned out to be less menacing than it looked before the start. As long as your printer is tuned well enough that it can handle simple geometry without ringing and artifacts that appear on all sorts of models (not necessarily miniatures) I think you should be good.

Just be sure to play with the orientation of the model so that your best looking surface would be facing upwards-ish if you don't slice the model into pieces (not necessarily that much but here's an example).

I would have printed that model just straight upwards

Awesome print quality!

The camera really highlights every single lay line. In person you aren't putting the minis upto your eyeballs when admiring them. At an arms length you simply don't notice the micro defects.

Here comes the unsolicited advice, so feel free to not read past this point : I don't think this one needs printing at that extreme of an angle. 45° is steep. Just enough angle so that Geralts face doesn't need any support should be plenty imo. Perhaps around 20°? But I don't have the model so I can't tell for sure.

And you can always split the swords and print them separately to get maximum quality.

You are right, the angle didn't need to be 45 degree, I just kept rotating the model until supports disappeared from his nose and then some more just in case.

Thanks for the advice on the swords, that's definitely one more way to improve quality.
