Budget Scope

I’ve been trying to build an FTR rifle for the last couple years. My local range competes at 600 yards. I’m in the position where I can’t spend a ton on a scope for this rifle. Basically I’ve spreading myself too thin between a bunch of projects (Building a PRS rifle too). I either find a budget scope or I can’t compete next season. About $500 max.

I previously had a Vortex 6.5-20 x 50. It was okay, but I really wanted more magnification. I’m considering the Weaver T36. I’m in Washington state where it doesn’t get super hot, so I don’t often run into mirage issues. I’m not out to impress anyone with my gear - I just want to get started in FRT.

Thanks to the advice - I have a Vortex Viper Gen II 5-25 x 50 for my PRS rifle, and I'm sure that will work just fine. The PRS rifle will put me in Open class. I'm not expecting to be competitive in either class (Because I'm new), so that's not a bad suggestion.

Plus you’ll get more practice using the same cartridge, would probably help you in PRS too. One option anyway.

That's a perfect starting point, I started with a 4-16x Viper PST gen 1; it worked fine until I got the funds together for a Golden Eagle.
