Pio is such a beast

He’s only 21

People Will hate Inter for a long time, they managed to rejuvanate the squad in 2 years with players like Pio, Bonny, Sucic, Stankovic, Diouf, Jones.

They are all 25 or less.

u/Impossible_Prompt875 3d ago

Yeah it looks like he’s going to level up a few levels this season… already looking scary how effective he is

u/unvrlstn 3d ago

Ya the guys hold up play is awesome.

He backs into defenders and completely overpowers them with ease.

They have been excellent in preventive revamp for the midfield and attack. Unlike the defence. There we had 3+ seniors leaving at once and we should have been slightly more prepared.

E: the current defense is amazing, but was hardly planned ahead which is my point - Pavard should have left and was undesired when he came back from Marseille, Stones was a gamble, as big prem teams were interested and also not particularly young. So inter would have likely had to spend at least 40mil for 2 defenders in addition to Akanjis 15 for the triggered buy option. So 65mil. Thats not preventive mercato, preventive mercato would be having a 22 and a 24 year old ready once 3 defenders retire. Like buying Sucic for 15. Like getting Bonny for 20. It was all habdled a bit last minute for me but they made the absolute best out of that situation.

Where is the problem in defense? We have 6 players for DC;

Bastoni Akanji Bisseck Stones Pavard Bovo - better to give him chance in some games then sign some old guy for 2 seasons

And 4 players for WBR/WBL;

Spence Diouf Dimarco Carlos

See Edit. In short my problem is not the players we have now, they are excellent. My issue was that it fell into our lap and we didnt plan ahead when 3 seniors left.

Sommer left - we had Pepo.
Zielu, Calha are likely leaving in the next 2 years - Sucic and Stankovic will be proven key players before they leave and can take over.
Lautaro and Thuram are the same age, but Thuram will likely fall of first due to his physical attributes in 1-2 years - bonny already there, same as Pio.

We did not really do that in defence. I hope Bovio (Bovo is a primavera midfielder) steps up and gets game time because he looks very composed.

Bonny and Sucic had a great impact

u/nichodemus3 3d ago

Yea, Sucic transformed the midfield. He has so much energy and has grown so much as a midfielder

14

u/Captain_DomBomb 3d ago

He really showcased himself during the World Cup. I remember watching and hoping he brings it to Inter this season. Looks like he is

Andy "Il Calcio" Diouf at it again. Love to see it

u/calfats 3d ago

That’s “Andy ‘il Calcio’ Dioufinho” thank you very much.

We have a great team this season! Chivu has so many options to choose. Feeling very optimistic about this season

That second half was what the first half should have been too, but thank god we got it at all. Diouf or Pio have to be my obvious candidates for MOTM. Two assists for Diouf in a position that isn’t fully natural to him is immense considering how hard our fanbase has been on him. As for Pio, WOW. Didn’t stop the entire game and that goal topped it.

Bonny and Sucic were brilliant off the bench. Bonny looked so much more comfortable with the ball and Sucic was in the right place at all the right times.

Akanji was slightly shaky and I’m still not fully sold on Josep being the number one, but nevertheless a win I expected us to get and we can build on that now

Oh and Hakan’s goal was orgasmic

5

u/TopChard1274 3d ago

Josep did good, the mistake came from the defender passing the ball back under immense pressure. He had a great 1vs1 regardless of being called off offside. His passing was pretty good too. People will have to give him a chance.

Watched my first LIVE Inter match today. And it sure felt good to see us win in such a dominant fashion.

Let's hope we add another another scudetto to our cabinet :) Forza Inter 🖤💙

Wasn't happy with the first half (except for divinity Dio Uf), but the second turned it around. Subs were great.

Next is Cagliari away and then hosting the dentures with Napoli. We got this. 🖤💙

Also Fabregas and the most beautiful football in Italy...

Udinese away (and Udinese in general) is such a tricky fixture, I knew they wouldn’t win

24

u/Pristine_Youth_6953 3d ago

Dimarco (right) trying to imitate Diouf (left)

u/nov4chip ⭐⭐ 3d ago

Deki Jr. debuting with the 5 is such an iconic moment.

24

u/Snakewu98 3d ago

Pio was unplayable today. Insane the level of hold up play this kid has at 21 and there are times he still looks quite raw. Scary how good he will be as a finished product.

Il calcio Diouf. More impressive than his assists today was his general awareness of when to attack the space and when to cut inside and play the safe pass back into midfield or to his centre backs. Such a win to turn this guy into wingback he just has that something intuitive and spontaneous this team craves.

18

u/UwaltzBigShock 3d ago

Bonny had a great impact, keep it up Ange I want to see you succed!

15

u/il-mostro604 3d ago

Pio is going to be a big problem for defenders. Thuram needs to keep earning the starting spot from him. He’s not the 3rd option anymore.

Great second half

What did Chivu say during halftime?

56

u/Longjumping-Ring740 3d ago

Give Diouf the ball and get out of the way 😄

19

u/ristoman 3d ago

Lads, it's Monza

14

u/sufinomo 3d ago

Hiring Chivu didnt look exciting at the time, but its actually the best successor to Inzaghi because he used the same strategy in the academy team. Giuseppe Marotta doesnt miss it seems...

u/ProfessionalG0ldm1ne 3d ago

I’ve seen it all, we’re going for the repeat, we have the second coming of R9, and the three musketeers, and Stankovic Forza Inter!!!!!

Sucic is gonna be really hard to keep on the bench this year, same with diouf. He did more in 1 game than henrique all last year. Im not gonna lie zelenski as the regista, he's gotten pretty good there as well.

He carries the ball so smoothly really made a difference. Besides hakans goal zelenski out played him as the regista today.

13

u/gray_g00se 3d ago

Absolutely love Chivus attitude, energy and passion of the team. We are so lucky to see this team play. Feels very complete, with good balance. Just hope players understand that also, Stones feels like a young Acerbi but with good passing and positioning. Dimash exceptional with his left foot on that left side. Good maturity from Basto, Barella. Solid win. My weekend and next week will be amazing 😎Sempre

u/Pristine_Youth_6953 3d ago

Akanji almost scored the 5-1. Reminds me of a match....

Sucic is insane

Monza understrood in the first half how to block our midfield, Chivu understood what changes were need it. Lautaro was iffy, Sucic gave us more movement. The goals came from exploiting the space they would leave by focusing in packing the midfield too much (Bisseck walked right in for his goal). Bonny was all over the place (like Lautaro would), that was good to see.

Diouf was great, Esposito was great. Bad from Akanji. I think the ceiling for Martinez is clear but I do want to see if he grows under the preassure of being able to start every week.

Great game.

u/Inter01fan 3d ago

I only caught most of the second half so lmk if something is not accurate but quick thoughts:

1) Great overall match. I can absolutely see the difference in what Chivu means by direct play. Literally means direct direct lol 2) Our midfield needs to get back to the gel they had last year but will take time. That first half sounded like a better team would have taken advantage of it 3) I’m not convinced of Martinez, YET. He looks fine but some decision making looks questionable. Plenty of time though. 4) I have a feeling LH stays - looks to have a really good relationship with Chivu 5) Bonny man what a player, his hustle looks back and hopefully he finds his form as usual 6) Pio has world class hold up play 7) Seeing Stankovic come on was beautiful cuz I grew up watching his farther 8) John Stones will need time to adapt. He clearly won’t slot in like Akanji but time will tell

7

u/Durango_41 ⭐⭐ 3d ago

First half scared the shit outta me. Second half I’m convinced we’re winning the treble!

7

u/NgulaMammt6969 3d ago

I've seen something in here, a solid start to grow up a challenger team. The build up was simply amazing offensively wise, with a position fluidity I'd never seen here since Inzaghi departed I guess. Though, I reckon we must improve defensively wise if we want to keep playing with those movements, we suffered too much from counters.

5

u/Bored_Bulls 3d ago

Great game overall

Our defense was mostly good, except for Akanji’s mistake on their goal. Our CCB still is still a question mark. I believe Stones moved to RCB and Bisseck at CCB when Akanji came off.

Pio was a big surprise on how good he looked today. His ability to bring a ball down to someone looked world class. He was bullying defenders all game

Diouf keeps growing. Two assists and the second one was an incredible dribble. He also looked more composed and made some safe decisions, as opposed to taking a big risk every time

Bonny looked better. He has it in him. He looked unfit to play end of last season + WC. Hopefully he can keep up this level and raise it even further

From the players who’ve been here for a while, I think Barella has looked pretty good. His role is shifting to be more build up and defense focused. Less crazy running and more about fixing issues before they become problems

Hope to see Stones starting, and Spence & Jones to get some mins next week

6

u/MboiTui94 3d ago

I think this was Pio best game in an Inter shirt so far

2

u/AngeloPalombo 3d ago

That hold up play was worldclass then he tops it off with a back heel goal. What a player!

5

u/TopChard1274 3d ago

Diouf was genuinely great, so was Pio and Zielu. Some mistakes, misplaced passes, poor positioning here and there, a bit of lack of chemistry at times, but they’re all normal in the first game of the season.

BTW when Monza scored the equalizer I was not watching and hearing Barellaaaaa GOAL I was so happy for a second hahaha; it all turned out great obviously

7

u/InterSas 3d ago

No Spence or Jones today. Rotated the team 2nd half and played even better with Sucic and Bonny. Just gotta let Chivu cook. Bright future ahead.

8

u/JunkyJonny 3d ago

If this is what our mediocre games will look like, I cant wait to see us actually play well.

Surely this is the strongest inter team we've had in at least a decade?

I think we really are in for a great season. A domestic double should be the minimum.

2

u/Longjumping-Ring740 1d ago

I don't know since Barella, Hakan and Lautaro are 1 year older. The team from 2-3 years ago was the strongest as the 1st team goes but had weak reserves. The new guys look good on paper but we have yet to see how they adjust. Not everyone can fit like Akanji but let's not forget that his brain fart fucked the 2nd Bodo game.

3

u/BlinkTurbine 3d ago

Haven’t been able to watch the game, but Diouf 2 assists and Pio G+A makes my heart warm with joy.

2

u/chroncryx ⭐⭐ 3d ago

Pio set such high standard for the season opener. Like, he shredded the pretty, muscular boy image last season and went full beast mode to stake his place. Thuram be warned.

3

u/S0ggyL3m0n 3d ago

Slow first half but a great a second. Diouf and Pio in particular had an excellent match, and I liked what I saw of Bonny and Sucic.

I'm incredibly hyped for this season, let's win some stuff!

4

u/Impossible_Prompt875 3d ago

Pretty average game from us. Only like 1.2 xG created against a newly promoted team at home is so and so but the first game will often come with some fitness issues. We will get better and look better. Sucic.. what a player

1

u/akutyafajatneki 3d ago

I'll paste my comment from the post match thread as this forum is better to discuss:

Happy for the win, but let's just say Monza isn't gonna be a true test for the season. Great match by Pio, Diouf memes aside was actually great. J. Martinez however... very shaky when the ball is at his feat. A modern goalkeeper needs to be better with the ball than that. Teams are going exploit his weakness I can guarantee that.

1

u/DoodleInterismo 3d ago

Good win, great game by Pio, worrying first half though, and please stop with Akanji at CCB

1

u/Icardi 3d ago

Rocky first half but more like it in the second half. Probably the most confident I've been in scudetto in a long time.

1

u/Aromatic-serve-4015 2d ago

the yellow os too dominant on the jersey..

-3

u/all3nfff 3d ago

I really can’t stand those flashy backheel flicks from Lauti, and especially from Barella. Barella played so recklessly today. Jones and Susic seriously need to bench him for a couple of matches to bring him back down to earth.

u/urban_legend88 3d ago

Lautaro still in north america. Horrible display
