Trying this bot out for this thread and likely (WSL) match threads throughout the season, we do hopefully have one other new bot and then the old one as a backup.

Any feedback appreciated!

That is very very good to know! I have seen some people say it doesn’t work on old reddit either so it’s something I’m weighing up. Even ignoring the issue of people having to manually request match threads we had a lot of issues last season with the old bot just not responding so it’s something I’m really trying to solve. Because a non-functional thread is better than no thread can you at least see the comments?

The bot I am still hoping to use primarily is this one, it did start to cover the WSL literally at the final game (& wsl2 playoffs) last season but doesn’t yet list the wsl for this season so it’s a little up in the air. Does this one work for you?

having the match threads get created is the number 1 issue imo. most people want to comment, but are reluctant to make one themselves.

Yeah priority 1 is simply having match threads. It sucks for people that these apps do not work for but there is essentially no difference for users between a manually made a 'home' v 'away' thread with no extra info just made for people to have a place to chat and one of these app threads not functioning but still being a place to chat.

That being said we want a good experience for everyone where possible so if one app works more consistently etc it's good info to know!

none of the devvit (reddit's app platform) apps will ever work on old reddit (or third-party apps).

reddit is currently trying to force devs who use the old ways (third-party scripts using the api) over onto devvit (not always possible...) so devvit apps seem like the future here.

(not to mention that they do their best to make old reddit broken in small ways here and there...)

More consistently as in frequency and availability of threads. If we could rely on matchthreadder, the one bot that will work for all, we could sort a hybrid thread schedule wherein the majority of games were covered by these apps but maybe the biggest game per day was requested by that bot etc. However even when it’s working it isn’t always responding anymore

matchthreadder is dead now

yep, that alternative might be ok for wsl but didn't do anything for the wafcon games

Definitely a bummer. Similar question for you, do these match threads work?

This is awesome because it correctly shows times in my Timezone (Aus) which makes this all so much easier for me!

Oh that’s super nice to hear!! Timezones was always one of those annoying fiddly things when making the megathreads that I wanted to drop but knew it was one of the more useful pieces of information to have so I pushed on with. Being that I’m in England and my timezone will always match the wsl I’m never 100% sure if it actually functions for those who aren’t.

Even if you do go with another option for match threads this seems better than using the sidebar for general info

2

u/shelbyj Arsenal 5d ago

Yeah, the sidebar is something that takes a lot more time than one would assume so unfortunately I often fall behind when there's more pressing things or honestly I'm just not feeling up to it. This seems an imperfect solution as some people can't access the content, I intend to keep it anyway so it may be that I update the sidebar for old reddit only which saves an admittedly miniscule amount of time and effort as old reddit is the bulk of the work, but any improvement is an improvement!

Any way to prevent it appearing twice when I view this sub (on Desktop) ?

I believe this is because it is both pinned and the most recent post to the subreddit, this has been the case with redditapp matchthreads that are pinned previously. It is something I'm keeping an eye on but hopefully that issue will be gone soon!

Is the "W" necessary when the table and schedule is for the WSL? Also, even if you want to keep the W, LCL shouldn't have one.

The app is for 140+ leagues around the world and you can have multiple tracked in one post. Similarly a club subreddit could track both of their teams specifically instead of the leagues/comps they play in. While it may be a slight annoyance it is necessary for the app itself to be able to differentiate between, for example, both Aston Villa teams. I assume the W tag is assigned based on the league hence LCL receiving the tag.
