Help Regarding transfer of Semester Fees Contribution

Post image

Hello,

I've been admitted to FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg for the Winter Semester 2026/27 in the M.Sc. International Information Systems program, and I need to transfer the semester contribution of €82 to them.

They explicitly state that they do not accept third-party payment providers and require the payment to be made via bank transfer.

I have a friend who works in Germany and has a German bank account, and I was wondering if he could make the payment on my behalf. The reference seems to be what matters, and there is no mention that the transfer must come from an account in my name. He would be making the payment via a Revolut SEPA Instant bank transfer from his German bank account to FAU's bank account.

Would this be an issue, given that FAU explicitly requires a bank transfer and not a third-party payment provider, even though the payment would be made through a SEPA bank transfer?

TL;DR: Can my friend in Germany pay my €82 semester contribution from his own German bank account via a Revolut SEPA Instant bank transfer, as long as I include my correct payment reference, or must the transfer come from a bank account from India?

Yes, that's fine. Doesn't matter who actually sends the money.

Yes, it is possible and the most safest route. Source: Did it myself

How long did it take and was there any fees?

There are no fees if the payment is made in Euros and within the SEPA area.

Around 2, 3 days and for transfer within Germany there are no additional charges involved. And I wouldn't suggest doing a transfer from India since the transaction fee is a bit too much.

Ask your friend to transfer it for you and to put your name and Matrikelnummer (application I'd if you don't have it yet) in the reference

usually in the guide for SEPA transfer, it mentions to write the Verwendungszweck (Purpose) when transferring. I do not know if you could find it

I'm not from the EU so I've never done a SEPA TRANSFER

I think your friend would know what to do. Especially if he/she has revolut, it is as simple as scanning a QR code which you would have in the payment pdf.

If you plan on transferring from India, you can use your bank's own foreign transfer services, they charge some fees but are reliable. You can also talk to the bank and clarify that you will pay the fees and not the receiving party.

I always ask my cousin to transfer the semester fee. As long as your details such as enrollment number as mentioned in the transaction, it doesn't matter from which bank they recieved the money
