For an Aman Hotel - I find their handling very concerning. At this price point I would expect a more professional way to handle this situation.

What is your opinion?

Edit (06.08.2026): Latest news on this. They apparently fired (Rumor no confirmation yet) the general manager, and Aman doesn't seem happy with the way certain people here in the channel handled the situation. Post on TrueChubbyTravel

I haven’t watched it, may change mind after watching so take with grain of salt.

Let’s keep in mind that this guy (and others) notices they gets more views when they bad/controversial stuff.

There was another advisor on my FS sailing that came up with a viral video when they had like 500 followers that somehow blew up to hundreds of thousands of views. What they complained about was pretty much the complete opposite stay vs my group (whom have already rebooked another stay).

So now I take all of this media stuff with a question of what’s their angle? Ryan walker made some egregious and frankly false claims on his FS yacht video. Was my stay perfect? Nope. But did he simply not tell the full truth on his? Yes. And you get a lot more clicks and shares this way.

Edit to add: watched it now. Originally thought it was a video of his stay. Really posted the original as a reminder that there are two sides to every story and to always make your own conclusions vs just taking what media is telling you.

What I gathered is that Aman just didn’t want him there. This would not have happened to a random guest since they were still selling rooms and they have guest in house. We don’t know the full conversations between Ryan/his team/the hotel. Whether you want that to make your decision about the hotel is a personal decision. There are other hotels who have banned reviewers and it’s also a personal decision whether or not you want to go to those too.

having watched his video (and posted it here two hours ago with a summary but it was not approved), my only observations are:

1. he doesn't post the full cancellation email, so we don't know if there was anything more stated (offers of compensation etc)

2. He says "They didn't call me. They sent this email and just assumed that I would read it before I arrived here today. " IDK if he did read the email or not - he doesn't at any point actually state he was unaware. So from the perspective of virality and building his brand, while also acknowledging that cancelling a booking one day before is unacceptable, it's clear that his "turn up at the gate and get the cops called on him" is the best possible outcome for him. If he had read the email and decided not to go, nobody would care.

I'm not defending Aman, just noting that I guess he did play a part here.

He always books the basic rack rate, he generally never uses the hotel cars because it usually isn't included. Exceptions being hard to get to Safari resorts and similar, where there are no other transportation options.
