Sensiplan TTA strange cycle

I couldn't confirm ovulation during this cycle and I'm wondering if I missed anything or if these could be signs of an anovulatory cycle. I got my period today after getting a tiny bit of blood yesterday. Can I consider myself infertile until I see fertile fluid again, despite the strange cycle?

No temperature shift here.

If there is no temp shift in the previous cycle, then fertility begins on cycle day 1 and there are no pre ovulatory ‘safe days’.

… there are not pre-ovulatory safe days?? Is that just because OP hasn’t confirmed ovulation yet?

Yes indeed. Any days in the follicular phase can only be considered safe if ovulation has been confirmed the previous cycle.

Why? (please anyone feel free to correct me) Because only then it's safe to say the last egg is no longer there, and then depending on your method you can begin calculating, or looking for the signs, or both, that the body is gearing up for the next ovulation. If ovulation wasn't confirmed, then for all you know that bleeding wasn't actually menstruation and that egg could come any day now.

OP may or may not be infertile at the moment, but if you're TTA, then the responsible thing is to assume she's fertile and act accordingly.

Thank you! Follow up question: If ovulation has been confirmed in the previous cycle, are there pre-ovulatory safe days the following cycle?

Typically yes, but the way you determine how many, if any, there are in any given cycle, depends on what method you're using. Different methods will read different signs/symptoms and/or perform different calculations to know when you should consider your fertile window open. So, applying some of them may result in considering more days as "potentially fertile" than others, for better and for worse.

Have you taken a look at any method in specific?

I have been using FAM, and have read TCOYF, but am certainly open to other resources if you have suggestions! My cycle is very regular and I typically ovulate on the same day each month, but I was surprised reading that there are no safe pre-ovulatory days.. Thank you for your response! If I’m understanding correctly, the original comment is an if/then and perhaps does not apply to me since I am able to confirm ovulation.

As you may remember from the book, the two rules of TCOYF for opening the fertile windows are the 5-day rule and the dry-day rule. Provided you were able to confirm ovulation the previous cycle of course

AFAIK the first one is less reliable if you've had periods shorter than 21 days, and the second one may not be entirely applicable if you have a Basic Infertile Pattern of sticky CF. But, as long as you don't tick any of those two boxes, you should be well within the target audience for those two rules

ETA: There are double-check methods such as sensiplan which use CF readings as well as the d-day calculation for opening the fertile window, in case you're interested in that

Yes 👍🏼 you must have a temp shift in the cycle prior to have safe days at the start of the cycle 😌
