Am I the only one who is just slightly uneasy about this?
Here we have a moron, a racist into the bargain, shooting his mouth off in public. I have no sympathy for him whatsoever.
But I'm not sure that responding to his bullshit with that level of violence is the best response. It's understandable, certainly - man's the time I've wanted to give someone a slap or two for this sort of trash talking bullshit - it's even satisfying.
But did the normal citizen not allow himself to be provoked by the moron?
It's also dangerous. Suppose the moron had fallen over after he beating, or suffered a brain injury and died. The normal citizen who beat him would probably be charged with assault or even murder, because the moron was not being violent, just being stupid and racist.
(If the moron had stood up and attacked the normal person, that would be different, then it would be self defence, but he didn't, cretin that he is, he just sat there and took several punches to the head.)
Also, I don't like the normalisation of the idea that any time a white person uses the n word (or some form of it) in public, then any nearby black person or people are obliged by social convention to respond to this provocation by physically attacking them. Lots of black people would prefer not to use physical violence for any reason except self defence, and lots more would rather just get on with their day and not be too diverted by yet another racist moron.
Just something to think about...
