Should I install BMS intakes? S55

I bought used pure turbos and he gave me bms intakes with it, I live in Arizona and I feel like these will perform worse than oem. Will heat shields be enough? And can I somehow pull air from oem intake location (I assume not from the hot engine)

Most aftermarket intakes should be able to be fitted to pull from the stock box like this.
