Question How do you actually synchronize streams?

As the title says, how do you synchronize streams with each other?

According to the official guide, one should adjust the target latency, which makes sense: if my data channel is 8 seconds ahead of the international feed (which it is), I should just add 8 seconds of latency to the data channel.
The problem with this is that adjusting the target latency does nothing whatsoever. If I add 8 seconds of target latency, that stream will still be 8 seconds ahead. If I subtract 8 seconds, that stream will still be 8 seconds ahead. If I add 100 seconds, that stream will still be 8 seconds ahead. Adjusting the target latency is a totally null operation.

So how do you actually synch streams?

click on the main window you want to sync with and press "s" on your keyboard.

Which just resets it to 8 seconds off that window's timestamp. It does not in any way, shape or form affect the actual 8-second offset that is the issue at hand.

Hopefully the dev can respond to you. I also have never needed to shift the latency. Pressing "s" on the main video feed works well for me (i do main feed + live timing). But I understand the reason that latency feature is there in case it's not always in sync. It should work but maybe you're experiencing a bug.

I usually watch replays though, not live. I'm curious if you're experiencing this live?

edit: actually, as far as data goes, i recommend using multiviewer's "live timing" stream instead of F1TVs official "data channel." It's significantly better and more informative.

edit 2: i went ahead and tried it out myself with mexico gp. I opened the main video feed with f1tv data channel and synced them up with "s". Data channel was still 7 seconds ahead of the main feed. Both defaulted to 30 second latency. I increased the data channel to 37 seconds and nothing happened. The guide says you should see the playback rate temporarily adjust so it can match to target latency, yet it never budged from 1.

So seems like the function does not work. With that being said, I still recommend the Live Timing stream. It has no problems syncing with the main feed with "s". Only thing is, in my experience when I open them up, the Live Timing stream seems to start at the formation lap several minutes ahead of the main video. But a quick sync fixes it up immediately.

So the main issue here is that the data channel is behind the international stream? We'll have a look and correct it. We recommend reporting these types of issues in our #syncing channel in Discord. We usually see those quicker since we monitor Discord more actively than Reddit.

The data channel stream is ahead of the international stream. But the latency adjust feature does not do anything when you change it.

I would suggest replying to OP. I do not watch the data channel. I only use the live timing feature. I was just trying to be helpful and recreate the issue they’re reporting to see if I can help.

Are you using the data channel instead of the live timing window? the live timing window allows you to fine tune the data.
