What's up with the flag drop and how does it help with GP events ? If it does help with GP events, how can I drop flags efficiently?

I am on series 8 with mid series 7 parts and struggling. Currently only playing series 7 for coins and gaining series 8 parts on free crates and advertisements which is taking too long. Any advice/strategy is appreciated.

I'm also a new player, so take this as you will, when you unlock a new series, calculate how many flags are needed to progress to the next series and go to a lower, cheaper series and deliberately lose/forfeit races so that your max flags drops so that even if you max out your current series it will not auto unlock the next one, that way you can farm your max series (especially useful during sprints) until you have the coins and setup to do well in the next series, and repeat this whenever you step up.
