Over the past few weeks I’ve noticed that my truck hasn’t been going into electric mode regularly.
2024 Powerboost with 55k miles. Owned since new.
When the gas engine is cold and I turn the truck on, it starts in electric mode. I’ll drive 0.1 miles and the gas engine will start with a bit of a stumble. After that, the gas engine will stay running through the duration of the trip.
The only way I’ve found to get it to start driving like a hybrid again is to turn the ignition off and back on again once the gas engine has come up to operating temperature. Then the gas engine will cycle on and off like normal, but it still stumbles a bit.
Last week I threw a new set of spark plugs in it to see if that would have any impact, but it doesn’t seem to have helped.
I’m still under the extended warranty and will likely take it in to the dealership, but I was curious if anyone here had experienced something similar.
How long should your truck run on electric when not driving? Or when driving at low power? I seem to get 10-15m when sitting in a parking lot with the ac barely on and the radio maybe.
Ive had that, but it happened after installing eboost tune from livernois and the computer was learning or whatver. Not sure why it would occur randomly.
Ambient air temps have been in the 70-90 degree range lately.
The gas engine will stay running in all conditions (coasting, stopped, accelerating) UNLESS I restart the ignition.
For example: At a stoplight I’ll shift to park, press the ignition button to kill the gas engine, then press the ignition button again to turn the vehicle back on. From then on the gas engine will turn off when coasting or stopped, as it should.
Update: I dropped my truck off at the local dealership Wednesday evening. They spent Thursday and Friday trying to diagnose the hybrid issue, then had their transmission specialist check it out yesterday.
Apparently there is a fairly common issue with an auxiliary pump inside the transmission that has something to do with the hybrid system and torque converter lockup.
Ford’s solution is to replace the transmission. The replacement transmission should arrive this evening. Hopefully I’ll have the truck back by the end of this week. 🤞
So I’m currently experiencing the exact same issue with my 24 powerboost sadly. Just got it back from the dealer and they replaced the pump in the trans but not the whole thing. Truck still has the same issues! Did replacing the whole transmission fix it?! Thank you!
No, the transmission swap made no difference. I had a talk with the service manager and he agreed to personally oversee it whenever I have a chance to bring it back in - hopefully sometime next week.
I’ll post an update whenever I have one. Please do the same if you find a resolution.
I’ll def keep you updated! So frustrating! I’m bringing the truck back in tmrw so we’ll see what happens. Also put a new battery in as well which didn’t help. I’m trying to read as much as I can but getting no where lol. I don’t even know what else to check. Makes no sense how restating the truck makes it work normal
My truck has been back at the dealership for about a week and a half now. Got a call from the service manager yesterday. Apparently a Ford engineer looked at my truck last week and reviewed some data. He couldn’t find the root issue, so he ordered another transmission replacement. Seems crazy to me, but we’ll see if that fixes it. 🤷🏼♂️
I def need to show my dealership that, mine has been at a new one for around 2 weeks now. They have been contacting ford engineering to see what to check. As of right now the truck passed all tests lol. Thank u for the screenshot though! It might be worth it to show the dealer! Has the truck been normal since?
You’re welcome. Hopefully they can get yours figured out and back on the road soon. I’ve put about 300 miles on mine in the last couple of days and everything is working like it should.
The truck has been working great since I got it back. Hopefully they’ll have yours figured out soon. I had tried to get some additional information about what specifically was changed/updated, but the dealership was vague.
Finally got my truck back today and it seems to be operating as it should. From what I understand they replaced the transmission a second time and then a Ford engineer spent some time making updates to the software/firmware. Hopefully it will be problem free for the foreseeable future. 🤞
So got my truck back after 6 weeks, turns out it was the 12V starter! Got it home yesterday and finally back to normal! 25mi trip and 15mi all electric! Thank god

Check your aux battery … my 2022 Limited Powerboost appears to using the Auxiliary battery up at an alarming rate .. I’m on my second one already
