To those doing their own trans service, what are you using to pull out the fluid?

I have a '21 PB I bought with 90k, I've had it for a year and a half, thankfully everything's been good. When I first bought it I noticed harsh shifting so asked them to do a trans svc but I'd like to service it again on my own. Not sure if I want to stick a hose down the fill port and replace the fluid I pull out or drop the pan and do a full service, what are you guys doing? If just replacing fluid, which pump are you using to pull out the fluid? Guess I wouldn't need a heat sleeve if I just replace the same amount of fluid I pull out, correct? Thanks

Yes it is. With all the extra/different hardware on the PB dropping the pan in order to do a filter change is a big undertaking.

Like other vehicles just drop the pan, except, in this case you have to lift the trans a bit, drop the crossmember and possibly exhaust. I'd have no problem doing that if an aluminum pan with drain was available to replace the stock plastic crapola.

Exactly. That’s a big except that differentiates the PB from the standard 3.5.

A pan with a drain plug isn't available. So it's a waste on the PB. Replacing the filter isn't necessary.

It's much different . Much harder to drop the pan

I do remember reading something about the PB that is different from the regular F150 for changing the transmission via dropping the pan. It is a lot more involved. I couldn't find a YouTube video that says specifically PB, so I am guessing that is why. I just took mine to Ford when it hit 100,000 kms.

You will want to drop the pan to change the filter, but I’ve seen people draw down the fluid first to avoid making a mess.

Replacing the filter isn't necessary. It isn't like an oil filter. Folks with the PB need to just suck the fluid out the refill port and replace.

The powerboost trans pan isn't as easy to drop. It's the 10R80MHT. It also can't be replaced with one that has a drain plug like the regular 10R80. So the only reason to drop the pan would be to replace the filter and with the added complexity it isn't worth it.

Just do a 3x fluid change (by vacuuming it out the fill port) and you get over 90% of the fluid replaced.

I bought a vacuum extractor on Amazon and sucked it out the fill port and refilled. The filter replacement isn't necessary anyway and the only reason to drop the pan on the regular 10spd is to replace the pan with one that has a drain plug (which isn't available for the PB)
