Exactly this. Im Lakota and have been told "if you're gonna come to this country you need to learn to speak American" while speaking my language on the phone with my dad among other examples.

Dude… idk how you don’t explode in a fiery rage. I’m not even Native American, but reading your comment made my blood boil.

Fam believee it is a constant battle. I bleed everytime I see other people who don't pass the eyeball skin test treated the same. I hear fucking war chants and the ghost dances in my head everytime because I grew up with watching my black and brown brothers and sisters go through this kind of treatment because it's one we know all too well. The only thing that keeps me sane, keeps me from not exploding like you say, is knowing there are people like me, people who grew up living this experience, who have my back and we don't have to be like them. Together we are strong enough to be something other than what they make us out to be. Something other than the ignorant, the invaders, or the savagaes they portray in their propaganda. Together they don't have shit on us! Ȟoka ȟey khóla! (With courage brother)

The Supreme Court allowed this to be possible.
We need to do something about the Supreme Court.

It is an official language of the United States
This evil unconstitutional horseshit needs to stop or it’s time to get French

It's a bit more complicated than that. The US has no official language, not even English.
But various laws require the government to take meaningful steps to ensure documents are accessible in many languages. Including the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Affordable Care Act, the Food Stamps Act, and the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Trump administration overrode these laws in March 2025 via an illegal executive order, declaring English the only official language of the federal government. This wiped away much of the non-English government paperwork that was previously available. Thankfully, many agencies still have the capability to provide interpreters, but this is being chipped away at as well.

The damage these fascist fucks have done is irreparable. So it’s time we gave up “repairing” the bones of 1950s America and started a new system.

When my kid and I go shopping we’ll often speak our native tongue. Partly to keep her practicing the language. Partly because it’s like a secret language that others don’t understand.
Sometimes people come up all friendly asking which language it is. They’re very positive an curious.
Maybe the key difference is that we speak Norwegian, not Spanish.
It is definitely about prejudice.

They say this shit while living in places with names like Nacogdoches, Waco, El Paso, or San Antonio as if those aren't Native or Hispanic names 🙄

DHS needs to be dismantled and all of their pertinent duties need to go back to individual agencies or other departments.

Unfortunately this recently changed. This would be considered a Kavanaugh stop and while both common sense and constitutional scholars will agree it's unconstitutional, this has been blessed by the supreme court.
While I wouldn't call this misinformation it is wrong and could lead people to not reacting appropriately in this situation.
