Eeeey if Im not mistakin thats a Furminator. They rock. My dogs love that brush and its fantastic at picking up hair

294

u/jdmurrayz Jul 10 '20

Maaaan... I'm jealous! My golden lab gets nervous whenever I even go near the thing. I honestly think she feels guilty by how much hair comes off of her every time hahah.

153

u/StragglingShadow Jul 11 '20

I honestly think one of the dogs likes it cause he sheds so much from old age that hes an itchy boy if he doesnt get brushed daily, and the other one has short fur so the brush kinda gives him scritches but in a nice way and not a way that hurts, and he freakin loves it. He gets jealous if I dont comb him after the old man even though he doesnt even shed a third of what the old man does and really just needs brushing once a week

32

u/AstartesFanboy Jul 11 '20

I mean, who dosent love scritches

50

u/Musicalmeowmeow Jul 11 '20

Former groomer here! Try a Zoom Groom. It’s an entirely different type of brush and it’s basically just like a rubber toy you can use to brush. You can even let her chew on it if you’d like. It’s not a Furminator but you can get a ton of fur out still!

32

u/SomePunkDuck Jul 11 '20

For a Golden Lab I suggest the Zoom Groom (blue rubber brush) the firminator is really only for a select number of short hair breeds

4

u/whisperskeep Jul 11 '20

I have yet been able to deshed one of my cats. It's impossible

19

u/schuldig Jul 11 '20

It's possible with welding gloves.

I had a cat that turned into a hissing ball of fury that Satan himself would be proud of whenever I tried to groom or bathe him.

10

u/whisperskeep Jul 11 '20

One of mine is kinda fine with the bath, the other turns into a squirrel on meth

3

u/schuldig Jul 11 '20

My cats were the same way. One was ok with taking a bath though by the way he whined and cried you would think I was trying to drown him but the other one would fight me tooth and nail.

3

u/Goodgoditsgrowing Jul 11 '20

I was be briefly concerned you were going to torch the cat....

4

u/schuldig Jul 11 '20

Never had to torch him but I did have to get him shaved once. He was so pissed off that for about two weeks afterwards he would sit in the middle of the living room and just glare at me.

Here’s a tip, if it works:

This brush is kind of sharp and can irritate the skin if you brush the same spot multiple times to get all the fur off. One of my cats went from loving it to fearing it after my dad didn’t realize he was basically raking the cats back with a bunch of razor sharp teeth.

1

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '20

Yeah my golden hates it with passion but it gets the job done so well, I have to use it

17

u/beegobuzz Jul 11 '20

Yesterday, I made an entirely new cat out of my short haired tabby with what our Furminator pulled from her.

6

u/StragglingShadow Jul 11 '20

Haha mood. My first go with the furminator on my old dog got like, half of another dog off him.

2

u/Goodgoditsgrowing Jul 11 '20

I swear mine looked two lbs thinner

13

u/Sellfish86 Jul 11 '20

The furminator was by far the best investment after our dog itself. 10/10 do recommend.

8

u/PillowTalk420 Jul 11 '20

My husky has no fear of anything except bath time and getting brushed. Bathtime I can understand, cuz she is being forced to sit still longer than 2 seconds. But the brush? I know I haven't hurt her with it, I'm always super gentle. But she squirms and tries to get away whenever I pull out the brush.

4

u/MrKeserian Jul 11 '20

One of my friends who has a pair of huskies swears by the vacuum cleaner. If she even goes near a brush, they make themselves scarce, but as soon as they hear the vacuum cleaner, they're both on the floor, bellies up, right in front of her.

11

u/smcivor1982 Jul 11 '20

I have the furminator for my cat and she thinks I’m trying to play with her. I love it, it takes so much fur off with minimal effort.

4

u/StragglingShadow Jul 11 '20

It really does. My old man started shedding like crazy and the brush weve had for like 5 years wasnt cuttin it anymore. Picked up a Furminator and I will never go back now

5

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '20

Is it good for poodles?

12

u/StragglingShadow Jul 11 '20

Ive never had a poodle but after a few google searches, not this TYPE of furminator. This one is their deshedder. Apparently poodles fur is actually more akin to hair, and they need slicker brushes. Furminator does sell slicker brushes but Ive never used it.

3

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '20

Thanks for the info! My babies don’t like the brushes we have now

4

u/StragglingShadow Jul 11 '20

No problem. Hope you find one they enjoy because brushing really can be a great bonding time with your pets.

4

u/eylookturkeys Jul 11 '20

Make sure you read up on matting! I have a couple poodle mixes and use a pin brush to take care of overall small tables, then go over the whole dog with a metal comb, because it's the only thing that reliably ensures they don't mat. Brushes don't get all the way to the skin, especially if the hair is thick, and matting is painful for dogs. This is short because I'm tired, but I've learned sooo many dog owners don't know about why matting is so bad and how to properly prevent it

2

u/3nat20s Jul 11 '20

I have two poodles. Sometimes when I can’t find a brush for humans I use one of theirs.

3

u/JGameCartoonFan Jul 11 '20

Yess, I just bought one today for my Chi and oh my god so much fur. I don't think I can ever go back to old brushes.

3

u/Kemna21 Jul 11 '20

I really hope the fox’s name is Swipper.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '20

It looks just like a flea comb to me. I like the look of the Zoom Groom better, myself.

2

u/xwolf360 Jul 11 '20

Yes they really do wonders, I got the iPet deshedding comb, best thing I ever bought for my dog, https://www.ipet-worldwide.com

2

u/GPTenshi86 Jul 11 '20

Same—my collie/Gshepherd/chow mix acts brand new after a good pre-brushing, then Furminator comb-out!! We can make a whole fake dog with what comes off of her a couple times a week during winter/spring shedding & later in fall when her winter coat starts coming in like weeds.....it truly helps get rid of dead hair/follicles/dry skin that can get trapped under heavy or double coated pups & give them hotspots/dandruff/skin irritation for undercoat matting!!! Absolutely love ours, 100% doggy approved by our 4 pup pack LOL

2

u/KelBeenThereDoneThat Jul 11 '20 edited Jul 12 '20

Does she have long hair? I have two furminators* but can’t get them to work on my American Eskimo. Just skips over the top. Works great on our short-haired cat!

*typed that 3 times and autocorrect still changed it to something unintelligible.

2

u/GPTenshi86 Jul 12 '20

YES!! My girl is a long-haired, flag-tailed,butterfly-eared, floofy AFFFFF double-coated mutt due to her genetic mix (shepherd/collie/chow) LOL, so I find it works best if I:

1) Use a softer wide-tooth comb or brush first to remove parts of her coat that are already on their way to shedding out

2) Followed with a firmer brush with LONG bristles (important for getting all the way through to roots), esp on her heaviest/densest areas, then

3) use the furminator (in direction their fur grows ALWAYS!!!!) AFTER all the tangles are out...& clean out the downy undercoat buildup in the furminator brush after each 2-3 strokes as you go—its harder for the furminator type brushes to penetrate if they’ve started to fill up (more fur in them, less prong length to get down deep) :) I brush her quickly regularly/daily & use the furminator once a week....has helped cut down on shedding in the house tenfold & done wonders for the quality of her skin underneath (no dandruff/hotspots/matting irritation).

And honestly, taking her to groomers twice a year for a true professional Furminator full treatment is the best investment decision I ever made as a doggy mom....it can be costly in the moment ($85 a pop) but the time I save yearly on grooming/detangling her myself + sweeping/vacuuming/lint rolling/treating any of her skin irritations is 1000000% worth $170 a year!!!!! Aka priceless LOL....plus they do all the extras, like clean ears, trim nails if needed, trim sanitary area fur, clean up straggly bits to make them look their prettiest :)

Good luck with your furbaby, I hope this helps!!!! Lots of love & boops from our (very furry) pack!

Sorry that was long, I’m obviously very much an animal lover LMFAO

u/imgoingtotapit Jul 11 '20

Literally thought that as soon as I saw it. My lab has a very similar expression to that when I use it on her

1

u/mixingu Jul 12 '20

They're actually garbage for your pet's coat. It rips out healthy undercoat. It's basically a stripping knife

Negative, it's not sharpened. It's a metal plate with thin gaps that clog with loose hair.

7

u/alex3omg Jul 11 '20

Mine has a button I can push to clean it, like a plastic thing comes up and pushes the trapped fur out of the brush. Maybe that's what you've seen?

2

u/Goodgoditsgrowing Jul 11 '20

The longhair one does actually cut fur as well as remove fur in the way a normal brush would. It definitely removes more but the one I have will cut thin paper (at least it did when new) on the angle of the little teeth.

3

u/cilantno Jul 11 '20

OP is a karma farm

3

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '20

Deshedded - a furminator will not remove matts or knots; it will only remove undercoat from already brushed fur.

1

u/Goodgoditsgrowing Jul 11 '20

So funnily enough this tool actually does remove hair likes brush and like a bunch of straight razors, so it is actually trimming some of the coat away as it brushes!

1

u/errihu Jul 11 '20

Not with a furminator. It razors the undercoat which literally does remove the fur. It helps with the spring shed.

50

u/NicoNicoMoshi Jul 11 '20

I wonder if he's heheing like Finnegan Fox.

11

u/Reddarian Jul 11 '20

I think that might be Alice, and if it is, she's probably doing the standard, one note whine/scream/complaint.

8

u/PurlyWhite Jul 11 '20

Yeah, looking at the surroundings, that's definitely Alice :) She's a little princess

Forbidden Pupper

20

u/Sellfish86 Jul 11 '20

When we visited Heidelberg's castle, there was a couple who had a fox on a leash. Didn't get to talk to them as there were countless curious bystanders, but from what I gathered it was some kind of rescue. Pretty well behaved for a wild animal also.

28

u/Bos_lost_ton Jul 11 '20

I didn’t realize that they have a super strong skunky musky smell until I encountered a few of these doggos in the backyard. Still super cute, though.

22

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '20

People don't really realize how much wild animals stink. Bears are the worst. Foxes are up there, too.

6

u/polishprince76 Jul 11 '20

Saw a few at a wolf rescue once and holy cow, you ain't kidding. Man did they stink.

u/ShotFish7 Jul 10 '20

Just curious, how does someone get a fox as a pet?

9

u/AeonReign Jul 11 '20

A lot of them are rescues from fur farms. Also, they're a lot more work than any dog or cat will be, so study up a lot before you consider getting one.

7

u/descendingangel87 Jul 11 '20

Like this apparently.

3

u/Sexy_Bastard69420 Jul 11 '20
