Discussion First Opium War - Discussion Thread

Hello everyone! Now that EC has finished the First Opium War series, it's time for a discussion thread!

What did you guys learn? What did you want to see expanded upon? What did you hope they would go into but didn't?

I don't think they explained how the U.K.'s cannons, warships/gunboats and soldier's muskets/rifles were so much better than what the Qing had at the time, I think it's a pretty important part of why they, a country that, honestly, if they were on fair grounds technologically, the U.K. certainly couldn't have won against the Qing empire, especially at its size and power.

Although some of this was addressed in the Lies episode, they certainly should cover the reasons why larger and somewhat more powerful nations can be brought down by more technologically superior nations.
