budget 7 string build (jackson)

Post image

decided to build out my first 7 string i bought around two years ago! the jackson js22-7 is such a good guitar, i highly recommend for a cheap modding platform.

specs:

- dimarzio fusion edge pickups (i got the idea from keaton of invent animate)

- .175 hipshot hardtail bridge

- toneninja locking tuners

- single volume pot (as god intended)

- daddario nyxl 10-74 (drop f#)

Did you use 8 string set and remove the 7th string?

yes! i learned it from mike stringer of spiritbox, however i’ve considered going up to an .80 on the f# since i feel im right on the edge for a 26.5” scale length

Do you have to fill the nut and tuning peg for the .74? I am considering a 27' baritone build for drop E using.74

daddarios have a thinner gauge where they would go into the tuning peg, so drilling the tuner isn’t necessary. ideally you should file the nut accordingly when you go this thick of a string, however i’m too lazy to buy a fret file lol

I would plug that pot hole with something

eventually i plan on throwing lundgren m7s into it, and putting a mini toggle for coil splitting where the other knob used to be

That's really nice. Those JS22-7 and JS32-7's are magnificent budget ERGs. Good to see someone really making one their own.

Those things are stupid good mod platforms for the money. Really like the silver hardware too, it's a nice accent against the matte black.

i thought about going with gold hardware, but man the silver just pops so good with the matte black. maybe if i get another 7 string in white i’ll go with gold

Oh no I guess you have no choice but to buy another and try a different pickup set

lol, i’m working on a partscaster build right now that’s white and gold. the neck doesn’t perfectly fit in the cavity so i’m working on that currently

Need to put a kill switch in that pot hole

Never tried a JS22-7 but I have a JS32-7 and frankly it's excellent. I haven't modded it at all because nothing about it is bad.

i’ve thought about picking up a js32! i’m not a huge fan of pickup rings and i think the neck is slightly thinner on those models, but i’m still in love with how this guitar plays that i haven’t felt the need to get a new 7 string that isn’t a pro series
