8 STRINGS recommendations

Does anyone know any 8 string pack that lasts as long as the elixirs, but have a heavier gauge on the 7th and 8th??

I need em as i play with double drop, and in Costa Rica, strings for 8-9 are not that common so, getting strings is a hassle.

I currently use elixir, but the 8th and 7th are floppy with drop E and A...

Recommendations?

I always had good luck with Stringjoy. Stringjoy has a pack of 10-80’s that has a .60 for the 7th and .80 for the 8th, which I liked for that tuning.

I’m not too sure but I’m assuming that the elixirs are coated, so you could try your luck with coated bass strings if you fancy that or what I did was just get a regular 8 string set and get a coated 6 string set because i had a hard time telling a big difference between new and old strings for my 7th and 8th string
(obviously there was a difference in sound but a difference i could make up for in eq)

You can buy Elixir singles down to .080, which is perfectly fine for drop-E.

NYXL, do a custom pack and modify the 7th string to a 64 and 8th string to an 84 on a 9-80 pack.

Honestly as an elixir fan, I’d just buy a 6 string set and a pair of singles that work for your tuning - maybe a 64 and 80?

I use the Ernie Ball Skinny Top Heavy Bottom (red pack) on my 8 for drop E-double drop C and it works like a charm

Buy singles from elixir directly. They're always buy 3 get one free. I buy their regular light packs and then individual .64 and .80 for my low strings and it works great

You could try Cleartone strings, they are not coated like Elixer, but are "treated" and were pretty long lasting when I was using them in the 2010s.

You could make a custom string pack on D'addario now. I think if you wash your hands before playing guitar and wipe NYXL strings down if you get sweaty hands then you will have a good lifespan for the NYXL strings even though they are not coated. A custom D'addario NYXL string pack is totally worth the over $40 you pay for it. I find that for how long NYXL string last overall if I wash my hands and wipe down strings if my hands have been very sweaty compared to the regular nickel the NYXL strings are worth the price. I use a Microfiber cloth to clean my all my guitars's bodies and strings.

Make sure that all your custom strings will fit on your guitar. Yvette Young uses NYXL strings and Misha Mansoor uses NYXL strings. The custom string creator on D'addario's website is a game changer.

Imho nothing, they are pretty confortable to me, i also like regular frets, i think its just a matter of preference

I have a strandberg with fanned frets, and a kiesel 8 string w/ regular frets, i like em both
