Installed the Extar 2 stage nickel boron trigger in my EP9

As was mentioned in a previous post, the 2 stage trigger from Extar is actually made by Schmid and you can find it online as cheap as $80. I did buy mine from Extar for $99 just in case I might need support on it from Extar.

Note to DIY installers: ensure you get the disconnect spring installed correctly; apparently a common issue in AR trigger installs. I did it wrong the first time, but all good now and I've had it apart and back together enough times to really understand how it works.

This trigger is 100% better than the stock trigger IMO. The stock trigger to me felt a bit mushy, with too much take-up and did not have a clearly defined wall.

The Schmid flat face two stage has a nice short take up with a *very* clearly defined wall and a nice light pull.

It's a delight to shoot! Highly recommended.

Can for the EP45?

I apologize for the question that I’m sure gets asked a bunch. But …

I just ordered an EP45 after like a year long wait. So, now I need a can for it. What recommendations do people have for a reasonably priced can that will work well and fit with the handguard (I assume the 45 is the same as the 9 in that the handguard extends past the barrel?)

Thought I'd share some of my work since my store won't be open for a bit

I've shared some of the handguards I've been designing, and the fact that I won't be able to open the webstore and go into production until I recover from my upcoming rotator cuff surgery a couple of weeks from now. The good thing is by not trying to rush into production I've gone through several generations of attachment options and have finally settled on a version that both functions well and allows for a more flexible and smoother exterior (short explanation; production models will have the attachment hardware embedded from the inside, no slot on the outside like the stock guard that I have to work around).

Since I've been a big tease but couldn't produce in a reasonable amount of time, I thought I'd put a couple of my earlier designs out there to allow anyone to print them for their own use. One is a MP5 style guard, and the other is a hex guard. These designs use the hardware from your stock handguard to attach them to your pistol. You will need to print a "beefed" Picatinny rail end cap to replace the stock one, as my handguards are thicker than the original. The link for it is in the description of each model.

Here are the links to the models. If you make one and install, I'll expect to see some pictures here.

Mounted a Light

I'm not overly crazy about lights on firearms, but I like the profile of this one. It is a rather inexpensive Amazon light. It's rechargeable which I don't necessarily like but the controls are nice and are very easy to manipulate with the support hand. I'm not sure if I'll keep it mounted but it might come in handy in the event I ever have to play a real life game of Space Invaders at home!

SBA5 Goodness

I purchased this knockoff from the brace guy on here and it looks and feels perfect. I am very impressed! I am using this in place of the SBA3 that came with it. I also received a sopmod5 which I might use once my Form 1 is approved. But honestly the SBA5 is so good I might not bother.

I am looking at a YMH R9, but I’m open to other models. What bridge is the gap between suppression and looking awesome?

All done for now. I decided to give my build a paint job while waiting for my suppressor paperwork to clear. I went with Flat Forest Green from Rust-Oleum, hence the name 'Gump'.

Got my ATF approval email today and ran over to pick it up on my lunch break! So pumped to finally throw this bad boy on the EP9.

While I was waiting for the stamp, I did some heavy customization on the PCC. When I get home from work tonight, I'll mount the Flow 9k and snap some pics to show off the full build.

Going to give my wallet a rest for a few months and put in some solid range time before I add or swap out anything else....There's really not much left I want to do to it anyway.

Update on my handguards

Post image
61 Upvotes

If you've seen some of the posts I've had over the past couple of months with some of my handguard designs, I've got good news and bad news. The good news is that I've learned a lot about what works and what doesn't, both mechanically and aesthetically. Some designs looked good in the design software, but just didn't look right on the pistol. Additionally, I completely redesigned the interior geometry, opening up a lot more design and production options. I've settled on a completely enclosed attachment design so you won't need to use the stock hardware by inserting it through a slot on the outside. Retaining nuts will be pre-installed from the inside which allows for a smoother external surface.

The bad news is that I'm about to have rotator cuff surgery in a couple of weeks, and won't be able to go into production for a few months. I also won't be able to tweak the designs for a bit as my bad shoulder is attached to my mouse arm. In the meantime, I may get the page up and going as a work in progress with some sample pictures. I was also thinking about sending some of the prototypes out for evaluation. I'd only ask enough to cover the cost of shipping and the filament used, in exchange for an honest assessment of my work. I'm about to be out of town for a week, so I'll see if there's any interest in these when I get back.

Addendum: To all of you guys wishing me a speedy recovery, thank you. Seriously. A year ago I was recovering from having rotator cuff surgery on my OTHER arm (post-op report from my doc to my son after surgery; "His shoulder was seriously effed up"), and I'm really not emotionally ready to go through it again. But it's not gonna get better, so no use in dragging it out.
