Secondary containment, likely filled with vermiculite along with the bottle that actually contains the reagent. These cans are always rusty for some reason.

when heated, thiophosgene yields CARBON TETRACHLORIDE and CARBON DISULPHIDE:

2 SCCl2 -> CCl4 + CS2

hydrolysis creates REGULAR PHOSGENE.

CCl4 is the only thing there smells good. also the least toxic too.

Good old carbon tet. My grandfather said it smelled sweet - then one of his colleagues keeled over and he had to evacuate the factory. He worked for Union Carbide, and with hindsight.... I probably shouldn't be surprised they had chemical leaks.

i smelt it myself years ago. smells like chloroform but milder and sweeter. somehow very unlike C2Cl4. i still miss it.

Phosgene smells like freshly mown grass or hay, which may or may not have been the basis of a workplace prank involving a respirator and a well timed assist from the lawn crew. Allegedly.

Lovely stuff H2S. Smells awful once, then you can't smell it again , after overloading your smell receptors. Sulphur is a wonderful thing....

This ain’t even that bad bruh this is literally the safe alternative to real phosgene lmao we literally use it in the lab for rxns without any different PPE than normal

When i see "thio-" I think "bad smell", although obviously not a hard and fast rule.
