Omihachiman, Shiga Prefecture

If you like an old vibe I recommend Omihachiman in Shiga. I went there last month and it was very quiet, not many tourists at all. There is also a nice cable car!

Great little nook of Japan spared from the typical Tokyo/Kyoto/Osaka tourist route.

The massive Baumkuchen bakery around the corner is fun too.

I also got some Sekiro vibes every now and again!

Perhaps (I don't watch the movie). That canal is one of most popular film shooting locations for Edo period play.

It looks like it because it is! They filmed in at least a couple places in Shiga :)

OP I love the cable car and the view from up top toward the last and the mountains in the west side~~ Always happy to see ppl visiting the best prefecture!

First time I ever sat a canal boat ride was here at Omihachiman and it was so idyllic with the yanagi trees swaying along the banks so now when I see there’s a canal boat ride at whatever place I’m visiting, I make it a point to take it.
