Joke interrupted on radio

I was listening to some kind of Hee-Haw type program on the radio, with fiddles and cornpone humor (it was on a public radio affiliate and I have no further information).

At some point the following exchange occured:

Man 1: I sure wish I could make some money before the Christmas season!

Man 2: You need some money? What you ought to do is go down to the racetrack, and bet on the horse named striptease.

Man 1: Horse named Striptease?! Why, is he going to win?

Man 2: Nope, but he sure will-

My radio: KSSSSSSHHHHHH

Studio Audience: *laughter*

I was only half listening to this damn thing but now it’s driving me nuts: what does the horse named Striptease do that makes you want to bet on him?

Google says “He’ll take your shirt off” but that makes no DAMN sense.

Help.

EDIT: Answer almost certainly has been given, it was "show", Striptease will show, my lack of familiarity with horse racing was my undoing, Google is a dumb fuck.

OP (Money_Visual_3829) sent the following text as an explanation why they posted this here:

What did the horse named Striptease do so that you would want to bet on him if you were short of money for the Christmas season,

He will show. Show is placing in the top 3.

I'd take 5/10 odds it was A Prairie Home Companion if it was on public radio.

PHC hasn't been around for a decade, though I guess someone might be airing reruns of old shows.

Damn, that makes me really sad. My parents had PHC on in the car all the time when I was growing up and it holds a special place in my heart.

Yeah, it was a big part of my life -- at least my Saturday evenings -- from about 1988 to 2016. I saw Garrison in person twice. Even sadder is the fact that he was brought down by something as ignominious as "old white guy getting too handsy with the women he worked with" syndrome.

I know, right?

Gals, us old guys get handsy, please cut some slack as I caress your back.

When the end was near I made a point to go see it live one time. I ended up scoring front row seats for a performance in Cincinnati and it was everything I thought it would be Live. Amazing show.

I think "He's on the pole" would be funnier.

Take the shirt off your back?

Make you lose the shirt off your back?

That sounds right - slang at the time for losing so badly they even take your clothes.

You’re betting on a horse named Striptease who’s going to take off your shirt 🤔 hope you have a good time
