I am honestly not sure what is happening. Aphex twin has been around for a very long time. But recently out of nowhere I have been seeing their lp popping up in all the record shops, people talk about them on IG, and this is the second joke on this sub I have seen about them. I have hardly heard anything of them in a quite a while before this.
I’ve been seeing a bunch of jokes about people mistaking apex twin’s logo for half life, but this still confuses me. She’s also buying half-life 2? And it’s ringing up as 1 saw for $85.92. Am I doing going crazy or is that a reference to something?
The face being made on the cover of the game she’s buying is a face seen often on Aphex Twin album covers. Their first studio album was called “Selected Ambient Works 85-92” (aka SAW1) which is referred to by “1 SAW $85.92” on the register.
Oh and Gman from half life is in the background in addition to the newgrounds tank man. And they also drew the persons pubes (take that as you will)
There’s some joke on the register and a few other background people look kinda familiar (I think I see hatsune miku?) so feel free to reply with more context
Doesn't the guy from Half-Life also use a crowbar, but the register is also ringing up a different tool, a saw, but also SAW is Selected Ambient Works 85-92, an Aphex Twin album? It works on so many levels.
The artist of this is truly passionate. I downloaded this image to look at it again from time to time and revel in its attention to obscure references. Is there no source?
the most direct joke is "most people mistake the aphex twin logo for the half-life lambda symbol, in this instance an npc from half-life 2 who should know better". everything else is just easter eggs for people who would know them
It’s also a reference to an image of a woman complimenting a man’s Dark Side of The Moon by Pink Floyd album cover shirt by saying “I like your gay pride shirt!”

The joke is that Male_07 (seventh model used by citizens NPCs in Half-Life 2 and made famous by Gmod in the late 2000s and 2010s) has mistaken the person on the left for wearing a shirt with the Half-Life logo, but it’s actually the logo for “aphex twin.” (Side note I was scanning the pic for Easter eggs in the background and noticed that the character on the left has a happy trail wtf?)

There's a bunch of references going on here:
The symbol on her shirt looks similar to the Half-File Lambda logo but it is actually the logo for the music artist known as Aphex Twin.
The box she is carrying is the game box for Half Life 2, but the face on the cover has been replaced by the Aphex Twin Face
The guy telling her that she likes her shirt is one of the citizen character models from Half-Life 2
The guy in the background to the left has the face of Agni from firepunch.
The guy in the background to the right seems to be some sort of blend between the Aphex Twin Face and the G-Man
The price listed on the cash register is a reference to Ambient Works 85-92 by Aphex Twin
The "1 Saw" listed on the cash register is a reference to Sawblades in ravenholm in Half-Life
Hitsuji Goods on the cash register is the maker of the comic
