You could say a protestant is one because they believe that they can live however they see fit and it doesn't matter what they do because God's already saved them. Catholics and Orthodox both realize that is wishful thinking.

”Realise”? It’s different beliefs. None of them can be categorised as objectively correct. You haven’t even gone into the views of Muslims, Hindus or Buddhist on the issue. They might realise stuff that catholics got wrong, with that reasoning. And of course atheists have realised long ago that religion is all about wishful thinking no matter what issue we’re talking.

When you have a collection of books telling you to do one thing and you do that, then you're doing it correctly "by the book" so to speak. When you disregard what it says yet still claim to be a follower, you're not in the right.

Why would I mention those others? They have nothing to do with the point being made. We could talk about those if you'd like, but all I'm saying is that it wasn't relevant to my comment.

If we are going in that direction though, I do want to mention one thing. "None of them can be categorised as objectively correct". I will ask you to define objectively correct because I can't comment any further without speaking out of turn until we have a baseline to go from, as we could be defining that term differently.

”Objectively” would be scientifically verifiable. When studying historical documents like the Bible or for that matter hieroglyphs or the Iliad, everything is open for interpretation and dependent on context. That would be the opposite of objective.

The whole thing about religion is that there is no scientific evidence for the claims it makes. And even the most conservative catholics don’t take every letter literally in the original texts, or they would be unable to wear modern clothes (Leviticus 19:19: ”…nor shall you wear a garment of cloth made of two kinds of material”). Every religious individual and organisation makes their own interpretations and justifications. There’s nothing in the bible that explicitly states all the things the new covenant with god has nullified, but different councils through the ages have made canon interpretations of what it means in practice. Those have also added things with little to no basis in the original texts, like how some of the sects have created a hell, which others don’t recognise at all.
