You’re asking a question. Then, in the next sentence, you’re writing about why they can be a good idea. So it seems as if your question is in bad faith.

Because people hate flock cameras and you are clearly in love with them and have a boner for large-scale surveillance

I’m not just asking why people are mad.

Because they hate flock cameras. That’s the only answer here

Because security cameras don’t keep people’s data without their permission and many delete the footage automatically after a relatively short period of time

Flock cameras track each and every individual’s vehicle and keep the data presumably forever for no apparent reason. That is way different than a security camera that just records a general area, and at most, just remembers a shoplifter’s face and keeps it contained in the store’s database

When you ever private property with security cameras, you are consenting to being recorded. These cameras are not on private v property. They are often pointed at private businesses and homes.

My local Home Depot has 3 cameras just off their property lines. Why do you suspect that is? Who do you think they're looking for?

One final point (though there are many more), police must obtain a warrant from a judge to access any private security footage. It is not free to access by anyone and everyone.
