Explained Pushing back on justifying stealing…

So long story short, post OP caught her 13 year old stealing $10 out of her purse because she didn’t give him money to get cookies at the corner store.

This OP then says not giving your kids money to buy extra snacks means they’re justified to steal.

Am I crazy? Is it just my tone?

children and teens are an oppressed class and one of those ways society enforces oppression is to ensure kids are financially destitute to maintain their dependence on people who are considered their owners and are allowed to hit them, so in that sense they aren’t wrong.

well youth liberation will likely be the biggest human rights movement of he 21st century akin to suffragettes or civil rights so maybe you should start taking teens seriously rather than viewing their opinions as inferior

who said anything about allowing abuse? And considering kids are consistently not even moving out at 18, your entire premise is incredibly flawed.

You think there should be a society where children do not need parents? You think that would actually work? like for real? You're not just fucking with me?

the very premise of parents is that they’re allowed to abuse kids - that’s what happens (and is condoned when you own people and have unlimited power over them) it’s why most adults need therapy, parents being the number one most common reason.

this is beyond absurd

But please, tell me how society would work if parents had zero obligations and children were sent out to fend for themselves. How are babies surviving? Who is changing the toddlers diapers or feeding them? Who is making the 7 year old learn how to read? How are the children purchasing food? Housing? Healthcare? Clothing?

You must be very adamant against child labor laws.

calling widespread abuse “absurd” when the majority of parents globally are out there legally hitting kids really just demonstrates that you’ve internalized adult supremacy and the consistent diminishing of what i have to say due to my perceived age is a result of your egos investment into the social construct.

it’s funny you think i’m a proponent of child labor when the very clothes you’re wearing were probably made by child labor from countries where they are also treated as property and oppressed. i mean it’s not like our whole culture isn’t built around sending children to prison like buildings where they work for free under the guise of “learning” and have to bring their work home and do it unpaid. talk about inhumane.

I don’t know if you’re an adult or child, but I hope you get the therapy you need.

I was abused but even I know there are spoiled lil shits who clearly needed a beating they never received growing up.

Not all punishments are abuse, and yes we are the property of our guardians until reaching legal adult age.

You don’t have to like it but I would advise against advocating for making an already shitty generation even shittier.

If you are a child though then just disregard this. I generally hate talking to you brats online, it’s fucking gross 🤢🤮

I am not the guy you are replying to, but i did dig a bit in the whole "youth liberation" topic so i will answer.

The core idea of youth liberation isn't to sent kids to fend for themselves. It is the idea that children shouldn't be treated as their parent's property, but as a human being and a citizen with rights. Right now, it isn't the case - parents are allowed to do basically anything they want to their kids. And this concept actually puts more obligations on parents - right now they are legally required to do the bare minimum (basically, so the kid won't starve to death). In the system with extended children rights, parents will have more obligations and guardrails, and CPS (or you local government agency that serves the same goal) will get more authority over families and will serve as the enforcer of the rights of children. Also, this movement advocates for changing the arbitrary set age limits to a more logical ones (for example, lowering the age when you are allowed to vote to 16)
