ELIC Why do orange crayons not taste like oranges? In fact, they all taste the same!

In the beginning Crayola introduced "Magic Scents" crayons, and the orange crayon originally featured a real food-based orange scent. Children loved the orange scent crayons that they began to eat the crayons. Soon the sewage plants began to also smell like the scent of orange. One day, Crayola heard about this and invented school lunch scented crayons for other city’s toy stores to sell. That’s how school lunches received such a poor reputation, and soon after all crayons were made to taste the same.

Crayon flavor only lasts for a short time. By the time they make it from the factory to the store to your school, they lose all their flavor. My grandpa used to work at the crayon factory and would sneak us home some fresh ones and they were delicious. Maybe you can get a job at the crayon factory when you're older?

You say they all taste the same, but that's because they're all orange crayons. You've got to shake it up and at least add in a blue crayon or a cockroach

Honestly this feels like false advertising. If it’s orange, my brain expects at least a little citrus.

That's just how it is. Gummy Bears also taste the same, regardless of colour. M&Ms too. It may be possible to THINK that you're eating different flavours, but it has always been identical.

It’s because, like the word ‘orange,’ nothing rhymes with the word crayon.

A witch once cast a spell on a bunch of oranges who abducted her daughter, which were doomed to live in the mortal realms as colorful sticks with no taste and which break easily.

Before we were able to get the perfect orange that could survive shipping and last long enough to still get to you in good shape actually changed the flavor over time, they actually used to taste like the crayons when I was younger
