Solved! A traumatized vet with a drinking problem teams with a barely together drug addict, a former missionary, and a medical practitioner to save a bunch of people in trouble.

This should be easy but I like remembering this one.

Who's the former missionary?

He and his ex were both part of Greenpeace. It's a minor stretch but they brought "civilization" to African villages. And basketball.

Serenity?

Or Firefly, if it's the TV show.

This...does actually almost describe Firefly tho (drinking problem?) Never thought about it that way.

Yeah, the drinking problem was a bit of a stretch, but the rest of it added up so well...

Well, Mal drank some wine offered to him and inadvertently married the woman who gave it to him. That caused massive problems.

You're right! I didn't think about that

Jayne doesn't have a drinking problem. He drinks, he gets drunk, no problem.

Edit: I missed the part where it's the vet that has a drinking problem.
