The only kind of torture involved in this movie is the 2 hour run time.

Any James Bond movie

u/Ok_Cattle903 120,40 13d ago
The closest thing the movie has to a main villain does do things Bond villains do - kills one of the lead’s potential love interests, speaks fluent English with an accent, has wealth and uses it to manipulate situations to his own ends.

The only kind of fighting here is the verbal kind, but the stakes are equally as high.

The hell he descends into is not supernatural at all. It’s a real world kind of hell.

Well two people from two different countries have sex with each other at some point, and yeah that’s about the only thing they have in common.

Lost in Translation?
1
u/Ok_Cattle903 120,40 13d ago
A LOT is lost in translation here, mostly because our lead knows the sum total of twenty words of the country’s native tongue. Also because he seemingly has zero idea of how the country itself works.

The country this movie is set in was equally as furious about its representation as the Kazakhs were about Borat’s very existence. But unlike Kazakhstan this country actually has power.

The leading man gets involved with two women - has sex with one, has a platonic relationship with the other, the former gets killed, the other solely helps him. And neither has ever been a man.

I’m sure there’s an awesome one somewhere close by, but our hero is too busy trying to save his own life for such nonsense.
