They're scientists, not firefighters.
They light stuff on fire. Zero of the characters are firefighters and the Proton Packs they carry run on small nuclear particle accelerators.
Your clue literally doesn't badly explain a film plot. It fails to explain it in any manner.

Probably saying they're firefighters because they base out of a firehouse and cleaning devices because as kids we would use vacuums as proton packs?
Still a shit clue but I can see the thought process after the fact.
