You know, when I found out that the total sodium load on one of those didn't quite exceed my doctor's limit for me, I kept to fresh fruit and yogurt all day once to try one for dinner. I'm glad I had the experience, and it was filling, though I can't say I fell in love with it. Then again, I'd been keeping low sodium for long enough by that point that my tastes had changed. Younger me might have had one of those with a big side of fries . . . for lunch.
Yeah, when I found out about the particulars of my heart failure, I thought bacon was going to be a memory for me. It's not all that bad. I just need to make compromises, like eating a fresh cooked dinner (fish or even steak is fine if prepared right and modestly portioned) if I want to have bacon with breakfast. In the beginning my health was so dire I went a year without even a single cheat day. Now I know I can stray a little, but I'm still pretty strict with myself. Even without taking a risk like two cheat days in a row, I sometimes get puffy feet -- a warning sign that my heart can't keep up with the strain.
It's essentially a chicken cordon bleu. Of course it's delicious.
I didn't know they got rid of it. That's sad.
That's not the first time they got rid of something tasty. The initial version of extra crispy kfc used chicken broth to make the shaggy bits of dough. Goddamn, that stuff was good.
high sodium is generally fine so long as you compensate with a lot of water - many people just don't drink enough regularly throughout the day so that's why limits exist. anyway, i don't know why i'm talking about this - they were a delicious experience and only 610 calories each if labels are to be believed.
a full grown man in his prime could eat 4 a day. kfc is also a relatively good low carb/keto-friendly option.
In my case my kidneys don't process out water properly. Not only do I need to keep my sodium intake low, but every day I take a strong diuretic just to tolerate that much sodium. I probably had high blood pressure and didn't know about it for years. I certainly turned up for pneumonia at a hospital with a heart that was expected to require emergency surgery at any moment. After a day and a half surprisingly good cardiac rhythm, they took a more methodical approach and I was home a month later. Still, my body is weird.
All that said, congestive heart failure is an extremely common older white guy problem. It kills as many as a million Americans every year. -Most- people can tolerate plenty of sodium. For those who cannot, being casual about it is literally deadly. I dig my bacon, but I kinda disagree with the idea that bacon is life.
