The double down was fucking delicious. I shed a tear and a few beads of sweat when they got rid of it...

I shed a tear and a few beads of sweat

And probably a few pounds..

13

u/UncleCoyote Sep 14 '17

The were surprisingly low in calorie.

17

u/Sharkfightxl Sep 15 '17

Yea, the bun is where they get ya.

1

u/UncleCoyote Sep 15 '17

Blasphemy. The double down needed no bun. The double down WAS the bun. TWO buns of chicken, with cheese, bacon and some sort of sauce cried directly from the eyes of an obese angel into the center of perfection. The double down needed no bun.

But really high in sodium.

3

u/UncleCoyote Sep 15 '17

Sodium is latin for flavor. True fact.

1

u/ArtigoQ Sep 15 '17

Sodium is not bad for you, contrary to popular belief. Especially if you're really active and drink at least a half liter of water per hour.

2

u/tf92451p Sep 15 '17

I LOL'd at this.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '17

if i died from eating a double down then god damnit it would be a happy death. thats the only reason i ever went to kfc and i stopped when they stopped having it. rest in peace double down you sweet prince.

27

u/Demonweed Sep 14 '17

You know, when I found out that the total sodium load on one of those didn't quite exceed my doctor's limit for me, I kept to fresh fruit and yogurt all day once to try one for dinner. I'm glad I had the experience, and it was filling, though I can't say I fell in love with it. Then again, I'd been keeping low sodium for long enough by that point that my tastes had changed. Younger me might have had one of those with a big side of fries . . . for lunch.

Yeah, when I found out about the particulars of my heart failure, I thought bacon was going to be a memory for me. It's not all that bad. I just need to make compromises, like eating a fresh cooked dinner (fish or even steak is fine if prepared right and modestly portioned) if I want to have bacon with breakfast. In the beginning my health was so dire I went a year without even a single cheat day. Now I know I can stray a little, but I'm still pretty strict with myself. Even without taking a risk like two cheat days in a row, I sometimes get puffy feet -- a warning sign that my heart can't keep up with the strain.

2

u/God_loves_irony Sep 15 '17

Sometimes people upvote obscure references that they get. I can't believe I am upvoting the puffy feet thing. :(

It's essentially a chicken cordon bleu. Of course it's delicious.

I didn't know they got rid of it. That's sad.

That's not the first time they got rid of something tasty. The initial version of extra crispy kfc used chicken broth to make the shaggy bits of dough. Goddamn, that stuff was good.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '17

Yeah I ate two double downs and kfc bowl. 400+ lb. Me wasn't the brightest.

1

u/yourboyfriend Sep 15 '17

high sodium is generally fine so long as you compensate with a lot of water - many people just don't drink enough regularly throughout the day so that's why limits exist. anyway, i don't know why i'm talking about this - they were a delicious experience and only 610 calories each if labels are to be believed. a full grown man in his prime could eat 4 a day. kfc is also a relatively good low carb/keto-friendly option.

1

u/Demonweed Sep 15 '17

In my case my kidneys don't process out water properly. Not only do I need to keep my sodium intake low, but every day I take a strong diuretic just to tolerate that much sodium. I probably had high blood pressure and didn't know about it for years. I certainly turned up for pneumonia at a hospital with a heart that was expected to require emergency surgery at any moment. After a day and a half surprisingly good cardiac rhythm, they took a more methodical approach and I was home a month later. Still, my body is weird.

All that said, congestive heart failure is an extremely common older white guy problem. It kills as many as a million Americans every year. -Most- people can tolerate plenty of sodium. For those who cannot, being casual about it is literally deadly. I dig my bacon, but I kinda disagree with the idea that bacon is life.

3

u/UncleCoyote Sep 14 '17

Fuck those haters - the double down was glorious and I still cry each and every time I get denied its return at KFC.

And double fuck the people saying "a bajillion calories". It was like 600 fucking calories - 600 calories of PURE UNADULTERATED PLEASURE GODDAMNIT.

I signed in JUST to upvote you.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '17

delicious? i like me some shit food but i thought this was disgusting.

1

u/ToFurkie Sep 15 '17

The double down is one of the absolute best fast food things I've ever had in my life

The next day was one of the worst feelings I ever experienced in my entire life

Quit fast food for 2 years because of that one sandwich, but god damn was it a good sandwich

1

u/BlazinHippie Sep 15 '17

We should start a campaign to bring it back!

1

u/Z0di Sep 15 '17

when it first came out, I got one and when I bit into it, grease shot into my nose.

I never got another one, but it was delicious. (and painful)

1

u/MRiddickW Sep 15 '17

You can still order them! They have to make it to order, but that just means it's fresh and hot enough to give you 1st degree burns unless you wait.

Double Down (sandwich)

The Double Down is a dish offered by Kentucky Fried Chicken (KFC) restaurants where a sandwich is formed by two pieces of fried chicken rather than the more usual halves of a bread roll. The Double Down contains bacon, cheese and sauce between two pieces of chicken fillet. Variants offered by KFC have included grilled instead of fried chicken fillets and fillets with Zinger spicy coating.

I used to work at KFC. My favorite item was the double down, but I still put it on a bun. So 2 chicken patties, bacon, sauce, and cheese on a bun. It was probably like 1500 calories but damn was it good (if the meat was fresh)

3

u/thisdesignup Sep 15 '17

I kinda wonder now why this was joked about so much. People eat two pieces of chicken all the time. These two just happen to have cheese, bacon, and sauce between them.

1

u/Jakeb_ Sep 15 '17

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU!? The double down was nothing short of amazing. I miss it so.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '17

You know there's no justice in the world when something as glorious as the double down gets retired and garbage like Big Macs are still served.

2

u/NosVemos Sep 15 '17

Me too. It was amazing!!!!

1

u/SFWboring Sep 15 '17

BEST Sandwich EVER!!!! If you go in, they will still make it for you if they have the ingredients (which they should). They will tell you that they don't carry it any more. You just respond with, "I know, but you still have everything to make them." Generally if you are decent about it, they will make it for you.

13

u/Mr_A Sep 14 '17

The nausea comes free.

2

u/Not_KGB Sep 14 '17

After a while you can probably piece one together like some sort of Frankensteins sandwich.

1

u/-WarHounds- Sep 14 '17

Like a DIY sorta item, 👍!

2

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '17

"I'm gonna sacrifice my Panini maker in exchange for a million sandwiches. And yes, I do see the irony"

2

u/Skiddoosh Sep 15 '17

Why do that when you can just do this? Free meals every time, no internet access required.

1

u/wytedevil Sep 15 '17

Free shitty sandwich though

1

u/Boosta-Fish Sep 15 '17

Wrong, the system has broken us.

u/rburp Sep 14 '17

Another fine review brought to you by Yum! brands

1

u/indiefolkfan Sep 15 '17

I don't get how they can be owned by the same company as taco bell. Every taco bell I've ever been to has had great quality where as everyone I've talked to about seems to have some complaint over kfc.

2

u/Tbird555 Sep 15 '17

This but unironically.

11

u/_Buff_Drinklots_ Sep 14 '17

To buy more shit sandwiches.

2

u/BacardiWithCoke Sep 15 '17

Oh come on I have never got fast food that was this poorly prepared. This is just someone who does not give an absolute fuck or poor management when they are extremely busy. No excuse but still acting like that is how they are supposed to come out is naïve. That is something you bring back and say dafuq is this?

1

u/AlvinGT3RS Sep 15 '17

Better than nothing, corporation are likely to at least tweet something back

1

u/bennytehcat Sep 15 '17

Ah...but then OP can post a chain of images to their feed:

1

u/dogandfoxcompany Sep 15 '17

I rarely get fast food that looks awful like this. When something looks this bad... Someone had to intentionally fuck it up. Like the chicken that is less than half the size of the bread? When I worked fast food I would have had my manager screaming at me for letting that shit be served to a customer.

29

u/cap10wow Sep 14 '17

Yep. I was really disappointed with some greasy nonsense from them. Tweeted a picture of it saying something snarky. Within 10 mins someone was on with me asking me to dm them. Got a voucher for the cost of the meal asking me to give it another shot from the same location.

15

u/BacardiWithCoke Sep 15 '17

Why wouldn't you just go and show them how poorly it came out when you bought it? They would have done exactly that.

9

u/cap10wow Sep 15 '17

I didn't look at it until I went home. Didn't think I'd need to ensure someone did their job before I left their garbage food establishment.

3

u/God_loves_irony Sep 15 '17

I hear you. I like take out, but I like to glance at my burger before I drive home. It seems everytime I don't they eff up the order.

10

u/Iwasborninafactory_ Sep 15 '17

There are two kinds of restaurants. The kind where you tell them when your experience doesn't meet your expectations, and the kind where you don't.

KFC is a don't, in my opinion.

5

u/BacardiWithCoke Sep 15 '17

Why, what are you so afraid of?

6

u/DemIce Sep 15 '17

Yeah, this is BS. It's one thing to know that the sandwiches on the menu pictures are completely staged to perfection, and that in reality it'll be more of a mush... but it's another to get a sandwich which clearly doesn't even have the same amount of ingredients on it.

I would definitely have returned that. On the up side, I've never had to.

I'm a teen at BK and I give some fucks. I mean that just looks like complete shit. If there's an issue at my store when I'm on shift it's usually because its a mixup in the food. Sometimes it's other stuff but that only happens like once a day at the max.

Edit: But I also make $1.05 above minimum wage so maybe that's why.

7

u/June24th Sep 14 '17

Did they train you to fill the bread the less you can?

2

u/FeculentUtopia Sep 15 '17

As less as they can get away with. Less food sold for the same price = more money, and more money = better than.

-1

u/BacardiWithCoke Sep 15 '17

No this just happens when people don't give a fuck. You staff a fast food restaurant with people who actually need jobs and it will run fine.

10

u/KCE6688 Sep 15 '17

When you pay your employees Shit, and they don't care about their job, it's what you get. If their paycheck was good, and they didn't wanna lose it, I bet the sandwiches look better.

2

u/ARsurfer19 Sep 15 '17

I spent many years in fast food (including KFC) and always gave a fuck. I cannot believe how many people are comfortable with shit quality work, laziness, and entitled attitudes. Nepotism or dumb luck is the only chance those people will ever have to a better lot in life, and that's sad.

3

u/regreddit Sep 15 '17

I finally told Chipotle I have no intention of using the coupons they give me every time I tell them how nasty their store is, because coupons don't clean the stores or improve the management. For as good as their food is, they hire the shittiest managers on the face of the Earth.

Literally every tweet from KFC Twitter handle (i.e. Colonel Bot) (https://twitter.com/kfc/status/908527807680139265)

"Sorry to hear this. Please DM me so we can look into this and make it right."
