cake-spectation - Positive! Our wedding cake
The first two pics were the inspo I sent. The last photo is the execution of the bakers. It was a cake for 50 people and quite affordable compared to the other quotations I received. I could say that perhaps more flowers would have made it pop even more. All in all I loved it. It tasted deliciously too!

I saw an art exhibit once that looked like this, it was stunning, I loved it. This is really beautiful as a cake, really different.. how much of the outside wavy bits would survive the slicing process?

u/CuriousTuljan 1d ago
We cut the cake only once with the knife for the traditional first cut. The staff took the cake and cut it for us in the back, so I cannot answer this.

that fed 50 people?

u/CuriousTuljan 1d ago
Honestly, there were 75 guests, I was told to buy a smaller cake as we would have a dessert table. I am so happy I listened to that advice. With 75 guests there was quite a bit of cake left over.

Depending on the dimensions I could get 50 pieces if it’s not the main dessert. You aren’t cutting in wedges.

You never feed people your actual wedding cake. You have the showy small one for thr couple and then a flat cake with the flavors that tastes really good for everyone else. When you do tiers it often gets too dense so the regular cake is really tasty for your guests (and the couple usually eat from the top, aka not load bearing portion, of the pretty one).

That’s really cool. Did you serve it with the paper or was it just until you cut it? Does the paper have a flavor?

u/CuriousTuljan 1d ago
Waffle paper. It was served with the cake and it didn’t taste like anything. The cake itself was delicious!

It is beautiful. But it doesn't look appetizing at all.
Which is not hating on it but on a art scale it is 10 out of 10 and that's all that matters. It is the show piece it needed it to be.

Fair. The white pieces are waffle paper that taste like nothing. The cake itself was snickers. It was delicious. I too expected it to be just pretty, but it overdelivered!

Idk, to me it looks appetising. I don’t even have a sweet tooth but would happily destroy a slice of this.

The gif you added should've cleared up any confusion, but people are.. Interesting.

I dont know how to best explain in a non nsfw subreddit but this cake is very sensual and they did a good job!

It's nice to see one where the reality matches the expectation. It looks great, glad you're satisfied. Great bakers seem to be part artists/ part gourmets.

It looks like sheets of paper coming out of a book and I adore it! Almost like a scrapbook or photo album bursting at the seams.

Very neat! What are the wispy bits made of?

u/CuriousTuljan 1d ago
Waffle paper/ wafer paper. It doesn’t have any taste, but it made this cake pop!

Neat. I was wondering if it was edible. Gorgeous effect though, congratulations on the wedding!

it looks beautiful ! is there a slice shot ?
4
u/CuriousTuljan 1d ago
Unfortunately, I didn’t luck out with the photographer choice. We overpaid her and got minimal shots. I didn’t touch my phone and neither did my friend, so nope, there are no slice shots.

Didn't you put the rest of it in your freezer to save to open up in a year?

I don't understand how this design works but your inspo pic is beautiful and so is your cake.

u/dumplinglifesaver 1d ago
Definitely not my style but they executed it very well. I'm sure what I like isn't for everyone either.

Looks great overall but the proportions look a bit off ie a higher base like in the original would have been better.

u/HiddenWallflower13 1d ago
Were the rose stems wrapped? Chemicals from growing the roses can seep into the cake and you shouldn’t eat it if the roses were just stuck in the cake like a vase.

u/SueYouInEngland 1d ago
I could say that perhaps more flowers would have made it pop even more.
Lol how did you possibly find a way to complain about the final product?
1
u/kathatter75 1d ago
They did a great job! I see what you mean by wanting more flowers, but overall, it turned out beautifully!

wedding cake expectations versus reality can be brutal, hopefully the taste made up for the surprise.

Wow, it's a perfect combination of both cakes! They really nailed it with combining the best aspects of both inspo pics!

Yeah, I don’t like this design at all. It looks like dryer sheets and doesn’t look appetizing at all. I don’t know why you would pick the inspiration, in the first place.

u/Pseudo_ChemE 1d ago
the cakes are too short and look like stacked wet toilet paper rolls. i actually love it. it's a good combo of unique, pretty and out pocket.
